Thanks for the advice; I will try to seea gynecological oncologist. My insurance/unemployment situation is a little tricky right now, but I think I found a program that can help me in my city. The gyn who did my endometrial biopsy suggested I get the BRAC, or rather asked if I knew if my sister had it, and said if she was positive, that my mom and me and other sis ought to get tested. I know you're absolutely right to listen to/know my own body, and right now it's telling me something is amiss!
In my experiences (I have had about 10 surgeries for cysts) that complex cysts do not go away. If it was a simple cyst, I would say do the 6 week wait and see, but being complex and your family history of ovca, I would insist that something be done. The BRAC tes is a good test to take, but it sounds like your cyst still needs to come out. Keep in mind that we are the only ones who know our bodies. If it is telling us something we need to listen. If it is at all possible, I would ask for a referral to a gynecological oncologist. They have 3 years more school experience, and they deal with more complex cyst situations. Please keep up on this. Please keep us posted.
I've heard of some genetic marker tests but cannot remember the correct spelling of them. They gauge how high a person's risk is for ovarian cancer, breast cancer, and are somewhat useful since they can raise a doctor's urgency if the risk proves high.
Thank you for your comments; I looked at your profile story and that was fun to read! I had the endometrial biopsy yesterday, just to rule out uterine cancer they say. Now that I know about this cyst, I have all KINDS of symptoms that I think might be caused by it! Nothing new, just things I've had for probably 2 or 3 years - back and leg pain, uncomfortable intercourse if it's deep, and in the past month I've gained 5 pounds even though I don't eat much and I always feel full, kind of bloated.
I need to talk to my mom about my sister's cancer, to see what she remembers. My gyn asked if my sis had had a BRAC(?) test, some kind of genetic marker test? Do you know anything about that?
They can go away, yes, but more likely they do not. With your family history, I would not want to wait very long to take action. It might need to be removed.
Ultrasound last week found, among other things, "superior to the dome of the uterus is a right-sided complex cyst which has an internal septation which measures 4.3 x 3.2 cm, presumably related to the right ovary or to some other adnexal structure. There is advanced through transmission." The gyn said to wait 6 weeks and do another ultrasound; does this sound right? Do they just go away sometimes? She doesn't recommend CA125 because I'm self-paying and she says it would come back high because of the cyst, and wouldn't really tell us anything. My mom says my sister had a very early stage (A?) ovarian cancer in her twenties.
