endometrioma

what is endometrioma?  Is it connected with complex ovarian cysts?  How about "thickened uterine lining'?

The vaginal ultrasound isn't bad at all...It's a long wand and it feels like they barely put it in you. Easy and painless. Let me know how it goes!!

Hmm...I don't know if they can do the entire thing with lap.  Maybe you should ask that as a new question, because i'm sure some of these women would know.  Hey, I'm pretty sure my ultrasound tomorrow will be transvaginal - what's that like?

I suppose, since you aren't positive which procedure you'll have, you should prepare mentally for the more severe one, then if you wake up and find out it was only the laproscopic, you'll be pleasantly surprised!

Also, can you have a total hysterectomy through laproscopy??

I originally went to Dr. for bleeding/spotting all month long (about 2 months ago) and also very dull ache low in my pelvis (ovary). I had been spotting and bleeding irregulary for a couple of years, but the pain started about 6 months ago. I kept ignoring it b/c it wasn't like a stabbing pain and it wasn't constant. I finally went in and had a vaginal ultrasound and that's when he noticed the cysts on my left ovary. He also mentioned the uetrine lining looked unusally thick but he said sometimes that can be the case at the point in my cycle (like 2 weeks into it), so he wasn't sure. He has not done a biopsy and he said he's 99% sure there's no cancer. I guess he will test the contents of my uterus when they do the D&C? My main symptoms are spotting, dull, ache-y pain in my lower pelvis and lower back. I've also been constipated (sorry, TMI) and nauseated. I'm anxious about my surgery b/c I won't know until I wake up whether it'll be an "easy" lap procedure to simply remove the cysts or a hysterectomy! BIG difference between the recovery times and I have 2 young kids to deal with at home! I just feel anxious from not knowing...

Hopefully your surgeon can do the whole thing laproscopically (I do NOT know how to spell that!).  I had my appendix out that way several years ago and it was a piece of cake compared to stories I've heard about other surgeries.

I'm 48, so my kids are all grown, and my symptoms are not too bad, really.  Mostly pressure all over, including up under my ribs, and generalized pain/ache with ocassional stabbing throughout, even down my leg and in my back.  The ultrasound was originally to see about uterine fibroids, because of bleeding issues the past few months.  I also have a few small fibroids.  All I'm doing is taking Advil as necessary.

I was at a new doctor today (change of insurance...ugh) and she wants to do another ultrasound tomorrow, including a transvaginal one which I didn't have the last time.

Did you have an endometrial biopsy to see about the uterine lining situation?  I had that last week, because apparently sometimes the thickened lining means uterine cancer; my biopsy came back negative, thankfully.  Now the main concern is this complex cyst, and it feels like it's grown, but I might just be imagining that now that I'm aware of its existence!

How long have you been having symptoms?

My Doctor, too has mentioned the same exact 3 things to me. I am having surgery 1 week from today. He is doing exploratory lap surgery and may have to switch to a hysterectomy, or may be able to take care of the cysts w/out the other surgery. He mentioned that he's pretty sure he's gonna find endometriosis. I am also scheduled to have a D&C during the procedure b/c my uetrine lining is thicker than normal??? WEIRD! My surgery papers mentioned removal of "complex" cysts, D&C, possible hyst. (if needed). I am 35 and am done having kids so I'm fine with that if he thinks I need it. Our stories sound very similar.
What are you doing about your symptoms?

Your doctor needs to figure out what you really have.

Endometrioma is not the same as a complex ovarian cyst.  Endo cysts come from an overgrowth of the uterine lining (endometriosis).

Either condition may require surgery.
