ovanian cyst

I have been having pain in my right lower stomach and the left too but not as bad for over a week. I went to my doctor and had to see a new doctor cause mine was off that day she said she believe it could be ovarian cysts so she order an ultra sound they couldn't get me in till the next week. I was hurting so bad I went to the er the doctor did a ct scan and said he seen nothing on it except a spot on my kidney i should have an mri on. I'm just wondering what is causing all this pain and if it is ovarian cyst why he did see it on the ct scan. Thanks teresa

With the work up you must have had in the ER, I am guessing that many things have been ruled out like appendicitis.  Your CT should have shown any ovarian cyst that would be causing your symptoms.  Conditions like endometriosis can cause pain as well as bladder or bowel issues.  If the ER doctor said you need a MRI for what was seen on your kidney, then perhaps that is related to your pain.  If something is wrong in your kidney, it could affect your bladder and cause pain.  Hopefully, you will get some answers soon!

I would definitely wait to see the results from the MRI. But it also sounds like it could be endometriosis. It can give you pain on either side & doesn't show up on any type of scan. Keep us posted on what the results show!

Theresa,

A CT scan is usually very good and picking up a cyst or any tumour.  But the MRI is better and so just wait and see what this result is.  It maybe a problem with the kidney cause all these organs are close to each other.

I did my ultra sound and it shows the cyst on my ovary...then I was sent to do a CT scan which gave a clearer picture and I think thats when they said it was a "complex" cyst.  My MRIs were done when they saw something on my liver from the CT scan results and they wanted a clearer view.

Therefore, wait on the MRI as it will pick up more than the ultra sound would.

All the best,

Jules
