results of ct scan

Hi ladies,

Updating on a question I posted here before - I'm 37 yo, not pregnant and never have been. I have been having symptoms for about a month of mild pain/pressure in my left ovary and a swollen belly. In addition I had unexplained nausea that lasted for several days and is now over. I had a ct scan and was told on the phone that it's normal. However, now I got the results and it reads the following concerning my uterus/ovaries:

"evaluation of the uterus and adnexa is limited on CT. Hyperdense fluid is questioned within the endometrial canal. The right overy measures 3*1.7*4.2 cm and contains several cysts. The left overy measures 2*1.5*3.4 cm and contains several follicles.
impression: limited evaluation of uterus and adnexa. Question hyperdense fluid in the endometrial canal. Cysts within the right ovary. Pelvic ultrasound is recommended for further evaluation of uterine and adnexal pathology."

I have an appt with a gyn for Dec 17 and I will talk again to my GP about these results on Mon. his secretary told me on the phone before that he says my ct is normal, so was reassured, but now I'm worried again. In the meantime, I would greatly appreciate any info from anyone who ran into this kind of thing before. Especially the fluid in the endometrial canal. I googled it and it says it may indicate uterine cancer in post menopausal women. Not sure what it means in premenopausal women. I was in mid cycle when the ct was done, so there's not supposed to be blood in my uterus, I think. Also, had no abnormal vaginal bleeding...

Any info will be appreciated. Thanks a lot for being here.

Oh, I meant to tell you.... I , too , had the fluid in the uterus and at my age, it also needed to be investigated. Still have no idea what it was , but they did a Hysteroscopy and all was o.k. ..

Let us know after your TVUS...Oh.. after re reading your post, I guess you already had the TVUS today..

You'll feel even better when they decide how to handle it...

Spoke to dr yesterday. He didn't have much to say, except that I have cysts on right ovary that should be investigated by tvu and gyn. When I asked him about the fluid in the uterus, he could only say that any fluid in uterus should be investigated. He scheduled a tvu for me for today. In the meantime, I feel less worried. Don't know why, maybe just got tired and bored with making speculations of what it could be. We'll wait and see!

That really is unusual I think . I would think that the Dr. would want to go over them with you first!.

Well, do yourself a favor and stay off the internet..I know it can be a scary place !! And, I wouldn't worry unnecessarily since his secretary said things were fine.. And, tomorrow is almost here !!

Let us know,

I asked the radiology center where I did the scan to send a copy of the results to me by mail. They do that. I called the Drs office the next day (before I saw the results) and didn't even get to speak to him, but his secretary told me in his name that my scan was normal. Then I get the results by mail on Sat. Cannot talk to the Dr before Mon. That means resisting for two whole days the urge to look at at them myself... and to google them... impossible!:-)

You are so right !! You know, I had a friend in Medical School years ago.. He said he had symptoms of every disease he studied !! And now, it is worse with the internet. I am curious though, if you don't mind.. Did the Dr's office just send the results to you? Or had you discussed it with anyone at his or her office before they sent the report? I think I"d rather not have it !! I would read all sorts of things into it.

I had a suspicious "spot" on my breast some time ago. I had to bring the mammogram to the hospital where I was going to undergo biopsy.. I studied that thing all night long ! Of course I had no idea what I was looking at.. (turned out to be nothing.. they couldn't even find the 'spot" when they took another mammogram). But you get the idea.. So.. ask your Dr. loads of questions and follow up with the Gyn. for sure.,

yeah, sometimes I wish google didn't exist:-) You are right, of course. The thing is I had a serious illness 5 years ago, and during that time got into the habit of looking at all my test results with my own eyes. Don't know if that's a good thing, but habits die hard...

good night and thank you for your reply,

Hi,
We had a similar question a few days ago and I agree totally with the answer: How on earth are you ladies getting the results of these tests without going over it with your Dr.?
It seems to me that by looking at these test results and not having a clue what they mean (since you're not a Dr. I don't think) it would cause an undue amount of stress. Most of the time you are not capable of interpreting the results, (and I don't mean just you personally), but we get the results, we google this stuff or try to research it ourselves on the internet which may or may not be accurate. A lot of times, the internet has false information or it is so outdated, it's useless.
I'm aware that by law, we are entitled to these results, but you need to go over these tests with your Dr.. We aren't Dr's here and it would be irresponsible and dangerous for us to interpret these test results. I, as well as most of the ladies here, could probably give you a pretty good guess as to what these results mean, based on our own experience or those we've read about.. But, it is far better that you talk to your Dr. about it.
Here's what I will answer for you....Ovarian cysts have been detected. Cysts are very very common in younger women and 95 % benign. They are part of our menstrual cycle and sometimes don't resolve as they should. At the top right of this page , you will see "Health Pages".. It has lots of information about cysts. Many times they will simply disappear on their own. Your Dr. has suggested you have a TVUS (Transvaginal Ultrasound) which will give a better picture of the ovaries as well as the cysts.
I'm sure you will have all of your questions answered Monday when you speak to your Dr's office. Don't you see a Gyn. on an annual basis? That would be a good thing to do, as you would have saved yourself a step in the process. And you probably would have had the TVUS to begin with which is a better diagnostic tool according to most Gynecologists.
Good luck and write all of your questions down for your Dr. .. Glad you are seeing a specialist..
