It is normal to have hormonal changes after a removal of an ovary. Your other ovary will take over, but it may take a few months for your body to regulate itself. If your hormones do not even out over the next 3-4 months, you an always talk to your doctor about doing a FSH test to see what your hormones are doing. This is a simple blood test and you should have the results within a day or two. Your body went through a big trauma with the birth of your child AND an ovary and cyst being removed. Be kind to yourself. You will get back to your old self, it just may take some time. We are here for you when you need advice or support.
I would first think of the side effects belonging to the birth control. Birth control directly affects your hormones, which would play a role into libido and mood. It's true that in having one ovary removed the other takes over in production of hormones and in the hormone cycle. Generally the only side effect is that only one egg is released every other month, which will effect the way you try to conceive. If you've been on the same birth control for 2 years, I definitley suggest talking to your doctor about changeing pills. Generally the most tolerated are the progesterone/estrogen pills, such as Yaz. Good luck and best wishes!

Hi There, I am due to have a dermoid removed the size of a grapefruit on Tuesday, and he said he would try to save my ovary, but I just want him to take it because, long story but I have my reasons even though I have been trying for my first child. I am 34, I have read too that your other ovary should take over in hormone making and compensate, so I am sorry to hear you are not feeling yourself. Have you been and asked your doctor about this?
