Solid Mass in Pelvis

New to site so any help appreciated.  After experiencing much pain in abdo over the last year and been given antibiotics for diverticulitis, finally got examined by GP who sent me for ultrasound.  Results appear there is a large mass behind the uterus which may be arising from the left ovary measuring 7.2cm.  This is a solid mass.  There is a small amount of free fluid in the pelvis.  A normal left ovary was not identified.  The mass is pushing the uterus and bladder anteriorly and is probabaly pressing on the rectum.

Got called to GP practice same day and following day seeing consultant who sent me for MRI and bloods.  Seeing consultant again tomorrow for results and going out of my mind with worry.

I also have had tender underarm swelling but although GP knew in confusion did not mention to consultant.

I know its only another day to wait but is there anybody out there who can give any info.  Does this sound like a normal run of the mill fibroid or something more sinister.

Thanks for comments, seeing GP today to ask for second opinion.  I'm also being tested to see if any problem with adrenal glands as the consultant said the symptoms described could be attributed to problem with them.  Seeing an endocrine consultant about this tomorrow afternoon so hopefully will get more answers.

Thanks to you all for commenting, I haven't anyone to speak to about this and pretty worried.

Its really important for you to understand why they are recommending a hysterectomy.  That's the first thing.  Second, if it is decided you really do need one, you need to try to find a GYN with a lot of experience doing lapis so you have a greater chance of having it done that way.  There is a huge difference in having laparoscopic surgery versus a laparotomy (large incision in belly). I had a laparoscopy a couple of months ago to remove two endometriomas, my right ovary, and my right fallopian tube and I can honestly say I had little to no pain after the procedure. My two little incisions are barely visible.  I've had worse paper cuts!  So, please get that second opinion and find the right surgeon. And, keep us posted.

That's great news, bet u feel so relieved : ) like u said now u know it's nothing sinister u could put up with the pain & not have the worry. I would get a 2nd opine tho as a hysterectomy is a big op, do u want children ? Do u have the pain all the time or at certain times of the month? What does pain feel like? Keep in touch. Takecare x x

Yes thanks I really am so confused - I will definitely speak to my GP about getting another opinion as I really don't want to have this op and it's one thing if it is completely necessary but another if not but this is how confused I feel, I can't see why he would want me to have it done if it wasn't necessary.  Does that make sense?

If I were you, I would definitely get a second opinion from another GYN and preferable one who has a lot of experience with laparoscopic surgery. A hysterectomy isn't to be taken lightly especially at your age. And, if a hysterectomy is necessary, hopefully it can be done via a lapi.  But, definitely get a second opinion.

Hi,

Thanks, I've got results this evening and amazingly good - even the consultant was amazed that the tumour markers all came back clear.  He's advised me that I need a hysterectomy - done as a full cut not laparoscopy and I'm a bit baffled as if it's just a plain old uterine fibroid without anything coming up suspect in the CA-125 etc why I need to go down this route but been advised that it is posterial (?) and as it is giving me problems with emptying bladder this could cause more of a problem in the long run with bladder nerve damage.

To be frank I was so convinced he was going to give me bad news that when the blood results all came back fine I've sort of decided that I could put up with the pain and keep taking pain killers rather than having it removed and he was also surprised the results were all clear and started saying that it could wait and then during our conversation he changed to stating that it is something that will be removed now if not later.

We've ended up with a follow up ultrasound in four weeks and appointment with him to discuss and an appointment to have the hysterectomy in 6 weeks but I just don't know what to do.

Going to sleep on it and any advised from you and others would be great.

I just don't see how the symtoms I have are going to be solved if the results all came back so good.  I have terrible day and night sweats, the most horrible sudden mood swings, complete exhaustion that I feel I can't even lift my arms without the energy and tingling in the muscles of my arms, terrible back pain as well as the full pressure feeling on the bladder, frequent need to urinate with only small results and bad constipation.

How is all that going to be solved by having hysterectomy???

It could be an ovarian cyst, as these can cause bad pain, bloating , bladder & bowl problems. I think with fibroids you get heavy bleeding. try not to think the Worce as their is a number of things it could be.  Keep intouch x x

Getting even more worried that nobody has responded.  I've only got till tomorrow to find out about tumour markers from blood test and results of MRI etc but feels a long time.

I'm 43 yrs and not had any kids and for the last couple of years been having problems which I was told was diverticulitis.  Normal dull pain in the lower left side under stomach moving down and at certain times flaring up with extreme temperature and really bad pain, which antibiotics or time has made pass.

I've had problems over the last month of something docs called possible cystocele but pain getting worse more on the right side and needing to pass urine all the time but only very small amounts passed and then minutes later needing to go again.  Was given tablets for urine infection which did nothing to ease it.  I've felt pressure as if my insiders were being pushed forward and pressing on bladder - which probably is happening now that I saw the ultrasound etc.

Anyway, just wanted to know if this sounded like a fibroid or something more - but I suppose I'll just need to wait it out.

Thanks for responding and any other responses would be great to get me through the next day.
