Pain management after surgery.... help!

To: help for pain after surgery
I just had a surgery removing a huge area of pal. cysts and fishers ...looks as though I literally got shotgun blast in back...bout 2 in deep 6 inches long and 3 inches wide.  i was on 7.5 vicodin 2-3 times a day prior to surgery for the pain of the cysts...now after surgery ..note this is in an extremely troubling area on mY body...i have  never been on pain meds before this problem which i got while being cramped into a guntruck for 12 months driving across IRAQ. ITS ON lower butt and back...cant move...and is very painful. my doc. gave me 5mg tabs of oxycodone. its doing nothing I am six four and about 220 lbs..seems as though these meds are just so insufficient..its like i have a tooth ache...its much more extensive than that...  my wife has not slept nor have i since the surgery 3 days ago....where can i go for some reasonable pain management, ....for this recovery period ...my doc is good but its a veteran hos. and they literally have nothing stronger then 5mg..they will give out... she tried to give me 10 mg percocet but they said NO? I NEED some relief and hate to feel as a seeker  because i am by no means wan get high.....but need a strong strong pain med... and what is reasonable meds for this??? keep in mind ...if u saw this area it would surprise u how intense it actually is....i have little butt left...and its open and has to be packed daily...which adds to the pain...the recovery is goin to take probably around 4-7 weeks maybe longer or shorter... ill take any advice.
thanks so much, its nice to have a place for questions and concerns.

I have to disagree with the Oxycontin being fast acting. It is a slow release drug that is ment for extended release pain control.

oxycontin can be prescribed up to 160mg at a time. its used main as its fast acting. if you are in alot of pain the try an anti-inflammatory along with the angelisic. you really sound like you need assessed as you may require something stronger such as morphine or fentanyl. my advice is to get re-assessed by another doctor and state that your pain relief is inadequate.

I'd go and find another doc outside the VA. You can go to any local hospital's ER and they should be able to help. They can't turn you down. I'd try other forms of pain relief as well, like hot showers, etc. It might help. Hope you get some relief soon.

From what your describing to me you need some serious pain relief! Go to the ER and let them assess the pain and see if they can help.
I know the pain your in because I cared for my aunt that had open wounds from surgery and had to be repacked daily. She was in so much pain she was getting morphine shots around the clock. The sites on her back and buttocks had become infected and she was in immense pain when I changed the packing's she screamed and cried and this is a women who will not even take an aspirin for a migraine!
Please get some help even if you have to go outside the vet hospital to do so !
You say they will not go any higher than 5mg oxycodone well ask if she can up the number of pills you take to make the mg around 15 or 20.
