Back surgery ?

I am having a partial discectomy done for my herniated disc L4-L5. It will be done on a Thursday and my doctor says I can go back to work Monday but to take it easy for 6 weeks. Everything I've been reading most people haven't gone back to work for a few weeks at least. Does this seem too soon to go back?

I would not advise going back that soon from personal experience. I walked out of the hospital from the 5th floor hours after my surgery but I was in no way ready to go back to work in a few days. You can reherniate those discs, I've done it twice. Everytime you have surgery or injure your back there is a good chance you won't get better and will be stuck in pain. To me no job is worth that. I'm no longer able to work after 3 surgeries. 2 of which had negative outcomes. Good luck to you!

i am a receptionist at a hair salon. So i stand 75% of the time, run around to the stylist to ask questions or give them information, i do laundry, unpack and put products away, answer phones, check ppl out. Its a lot of moving. More then one would think it is...thats what i am concerned about. I let them know that i won't be able to do the laundry and the products because i can't bend over. I'm still thinking that it will be too soon. I just don't want to screw anything up and re herniate.

I don't know what you do for a living, but that does seem soon. The thing to remember is that  this is a minimally evasive procedure, all their going to do is trim the portion of the disc that's pressing on the nerve, and their done.

It's not like having open back surgery where you'd still be in the hospital on Sunday! Been there, done that.

You really have to wait and see how you feel afterwards and go from there.
