I once almost passed out while checking my blood sugar when I pricked my finger. All of the sudden, at the age of 27, I developed a fainting problem when I see blood. It happened again on the bloodmobile when they did the iron test, and I was all set and ready to give blood.
I don't have a fear of needles and I really don't have a problem with seeing blood, it's just something that came up all of the sudden.
I really believe it is a reaction to the Local Anesthetic they inject , sometimes it can take up to 45 minutes for my symptoms to happen after they inject this fluid !!
Well,
It probably isn't normal to pass out so regularly. If it was, you would see fewer injections used on a daily basis, and drawing blood for testing would be a much more elaborate process.
Did the hospital staff tell you what your GP should look for?
Hello Auto,
If an physician told you to have this "checked out" than that is exactly what I would do. Does this happen at any other time? That would be concerning.
If that occurs only when you have "injections" or "see blood" than I would not be so concerned. In my experience it is not abnormal for males to faint at the sight of blood or a needle. We use to always watch the male in cases of blood or needles. It seemed the bigger, stronger appearing males were more likely to faint in these situations. If at all possible make sure you are in a sitting position and place you head between your knees before they even get the needle out. Distraction can help.
I agree with the physician and with jamlws that suggested you consult your physician. My husband does not faint but he vomits. When he is with me for medical reasons and a needle is brought out he is gone. He is 6' 2", 190lbs, strong, healthy and very intelligent professional that simply cannot tolerate needles. It's not uncommon so please don't feel embarrassed. It happens more often than you might think, especially with males.
Please let us know what your PCP has to say. Good luck and take care.
Peace

Do you have a fear of needles? That could be why you are fainting. My husband is scared of needles only when they are getting put into him but he don't pass out but he has come very close to it. I would talk to your doctor to see what he/she thinks.
Good luck,
Jamie
