Hello Klondike,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am so very glad that you found us at MedHelp and took the time to post. But I am so sorry to hear about your unsuccessful search for pain managment.

Are you talking about Dr.Walter Bradford Cannon who wrote the book, Bodily changes in pain, hunger, fear, and rage?" He was from my state of Wisconsin and was considered an experimental physiologist. He wrote so very interesting and enlightening articles and papers.

Dr. Alexander DeLuca is well know for his pain management beliefs and what he views as the War of Doctors and the national Pain Crisis that has erupted due to it.

I doubt little time is spent on pain management education during the average MD schooling and training. There is more emphases placed on pain management in most D.O.'s education. My physician is a DO.

You are correct that your blood pressure may very well be elevated due to your high pain levels. When mine is controlled it is very low, which has been normal for me my entire life. Before it was controlled I required medication to keep it in check. I no longer take anything for my B/P. Please consider taking a medication for your own safety. You are not hurting the ill advised physicians by refusing medication, but you are putting yourself at great risk. Please reconsider your position my dear.

You state you have had a painful condition since you were 14 if I understand your profile page. Have you ever had good pain control?

A Discography is a very good diagnostic tool to determine what needs to be repaired in before surgery is preformed. My father had it and it revealed far more than any other imaging. No it's not a comfortable procedure but sometimes we have to take some risk and undergo more pain before we can find solutions.

I know how very discouraging it can be to suffer with severe chronic pain and have no answers. I've been there, and was there for over ten years. I too became discouraged and convinced that no one cared or beleived in me. And than I stumbled across a wonderful D.O. (Doctor of Osteopathy). I credit her with saving my life, at the least saving my from a life of endless, irretractable pain.

I just like you dear heart am disabled due to pain. Please keep searching for the right physician. They are out there and you'll find him/her when you least expect it. When I did locate my physician I did everything she suggested, regardless of my concerns. When she saw how willing I was to end this pain she than let me call a lot of the shots. I think there are more like my physican out there. She respects me and I respect her. I know what pressure and scrutiny the physicians are under these days to avoid prescribing opiates. In my opinion the War on our physicians is not a myth. It is a cold hard fact.

The media is full of stories about prescription abuse and negligent physicians that are prescribing these opiates. I challenge anyone to find a media story about the under-treated, often neglected chronic pain patients who suffer every day needlessly. I wish I had a dollar bill for every time a physician told a pain patient that they would have to  learn to live with it. I'd be rich!

But you can do something about your diabetes and your blood pressure. Please my dear take the medications that they are offering you. Uncontrolled diabetes and hypertension can be killers.

We are here for you. Please be active in our community and let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to hearing from you again very soon. My heart goes out to you. I invite you to join our community. We do have a pretty good understanding of what you are going through and we are here to support you and help you find some solutions.

Please keep in touch.
Take Care,
~Tuck

First let me welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and tell you that we're glad that you have found this Forum. Please understand that there are NO Doctors on this Forum just us CP (Chronic Pain) Patients that help each other with the expertise that we hve gained about our own pain situations.

I don't know why none of your Dr.s have read any articles by these Dr.'s. Did you ask them? What did they say? I also have no idea why they don't understand your pain and what you are having to go thru!!

I have read  your profile and I'm truly sorry for everything that you are experiencing. There was one major thing that really worried me. You said that your blood pressure was out of sight and that your Blood Sugar is high. Did I read this right that you AREN'T on any blood pressure medication right now? I'm hoping that you meant that you are taking something different than the "Calcium Channel Blockers".  I also hope that you are taking meds for your blood sugar. I'm assuming that you are a diabetic.

If your pressure and blood sugars aren't under control that may be one reason that they won't give you pain meds. From what you are describing you definitely need to get some specialists that and PCP that will al work together to get your health under control. If I misread your Profile I apologize but I'm really very concerned about you.

I also have high blood pressure, 185/110. However, mine has been under control with the meds now since 2003. But because of it I have 2 stents, had a massive heart attack, hemorraghed after the heart attackwhile I was in ICU and had pressure drop to 50/30 before they could get enough blood in fst enough to stop the bleeding. So you see I'm very concerned about you, because I know what can happen when it is untreated!!

Have you considered changing all of your Dr.'s to some that will give you the help that you need. There are Dr.'s out there that DO understand pain. I know because I have a team of Dr.'s that do. Many of us on here are fortunate enough to have found some really wonderful Dr.'s that listen and care about US and what we are going thru.

I  hope that you will be fortunate enough to find the same wonderful Dr.'s that we have found. They are out there but unfortunately sometimes it takes a lot of searching until we find the perfect match for us.

Please don't give up the search, I know that you will find them. I hope that you will be an active member on here and help us and let us help you. Whether it is by answering questions or listening while you just vent!! Either way, WE are here for YOU!!!

I'm hoping that I didn't overstep with you, but I'm truly concerned for what you are experiencing with your pain. Please forgive me if I did. Hopefully, your new Friend..Sherry
