Doctor discharging me for negative drug screen!

Hello all,

I am a 21 year old male with chronic neck, back, and arm pain. I have been taking 10/325 Norco 4x per day as well as Adderall, Celexa, Lisinopril, and Topamax. Today, I went to the doctor to have my prescriptions refilled, and I was administered a urine drug screen. I didn't think anything of it until the doctor came back in and told me that my results were COMPLETELY negative for all medications, and that I was going to be discharged. I am FURIOUS!!! The doctor basically told me that she was sorry, but if I am not taking my meds, they cannot be certain where they are going. The most upsetting part is that I HAVE been taking all of my meds. I have no idea why I would test negative. Even my other meds were not present. She refused to give me my Adderall, Norco, and Topamax prescriptions, and I am already started to hurt horribly and getting a migraine! I don't know what to do, and I cannot understand why this has happened. I have heard from a few friends that, once the discharge officially happens, she will be required to give me a one month supply of all of my current medications. Is this actually true? If so, I can begin looking for a new doctor immediately, and try to make my last month of medication last as long as possible. I am also worried that this will remain in my record to a new physician, and make it basically seem to them as if my current doctor is calling me a "pill pusher". I am currently banking on getting at least my last month of prescriptions and hoping to find a new physician before they run out. I am currently preparing for my graduate school audition(I'm a music student) and there is absolutely no way that I can concentrate on my music being both in excruciating pain and not be able to concentrate effectively. Any help on this would be VERY appreciated!

Thank you!

If it's only been a day or so, I would ask for another test and a blood test.  I was failing durg test because I was taking a time release pain med. Well I had gastric bypass sugery a few years back and the med went through without breaking down.  I took a pill in front of the MD, Nurse, &The Drug tester & set in the office for hours took another test. Gess what I failed. The M.D. changedy meds & apologized for not hearing me out.

i tested negative for all of my medications in a urine test last month. Lucky for me my doctor knows and trusts me. I used another test cup the same day, and it tested completely as it should have. The first cup was defective. Imagine if i was a new patient.......would you accept that patient? The cups are expensive i'm told...something to think about. i feel terrible for you about this...It's not fair.

I know exactly how you feel, I had been with my doctor for 8 years when they told me that my last drug screen came back negative! I went in yesterday w a terrible migraine I have had more than a week. Yesterday's date by the way was 03/04/2013. They had apparently sent me a letter in t he mail discharging me, then why did they make an appointment over the phone, I even asked if I could appeal the decision! She said no! They were so cold and heartless! I said well I need my records, she said all 8 years since 2004, I said yes! I need them asap, she just kept saying its gonna cost you! At this point I was just crying, I could not believe this was happening! She was like well you need to sign this paper and we need your number, like I said very cold and heartless, at this point my husband took over as I could barely put words together due to the tears streaming down my face, thinking how can they treat me like this after 8 years! I just don't get it! I am so upset! What do I do now? Sure I can get another primary but they won't don't know me, they will get to know my records but they don't know me! I loved my doctor he was like my family and now I just don't know, I just understand how you can dismiss someone after 8 years!

Unfortunately, there is no law whatsoever that says your doctor has to give you any more prescriptions. Many doctors can and do out of compassion, but they're not required to at all. I would ask for a blood test. I've read many stories where the instant in-office tests can be unreliable. Good luck.
