Thank you so much for this post. You don't know how much better you made me feel...
I just started taking Metadone, and my family has me convinced that it is going to kill me. I have chronic pain and have been on norco 10's and a lot of them daily.
Anyway... Any information you have about Methadone, I'd grately appreciate, because now I'm so scared I can't sleep because I'm afraid I'm going to die in my sleep...
Hi there!
I too was on Oxycotin starting in 1999. In 2007 I chose to go into rehab because my meds masked my pain so much that I no longer knew just how much pain I was in. I was on 180mg of oxy a day and it made me
completely 'blah.' I knew nothing about rehab. I didn't know they were going to use another narcotic (suboxone) to wean me off the one I was currently using. For 5 days I slept - that's how the suboxon affected me. The staff gave me absolutely no 'education' about what I could expect when I went home on day 7. I was tense and irritated and my symptoms got worse ... because unknown to me, I was going through detox. I ended up going to a very nice hospital in Seattle and they placed me back on Sub and gave me a prescription for the stuff.
I don't know how it works in other states - but here in Washington a doctor has to be specially licensed (or something like that) to prescribe suboxone. They charge more than a typical doctor visit and the sub is on the pricey side too! I continued taking the sub because I thought it was a 'safe' (non-narcotic) medication. I popped into medhelp one day and imagine how I felt when I found out that I was STILL on narcotic's. I was so-o shocked! I couldn't understand what they were thinking when they gave us that stuff. Now I DO know.
Suboxone doesn't get you any kind of 'high' feeling. It blocks the brains ability to feel that since of euphoria. The user just won't have the same experience any more. That's all fine and well ... but I didn't need a medication like that, I had no cravings, etc. I was on the suboxone for a little over 6 months. I weaned myself off ... but this stuff was TOUGH for me! It was al struggle but I finally got away from the sub and I wouldn't ever use it again. I 'used' methadone to get me off the suboxone and obviously it worked. After being on methadone for 18 months, I was scared about what to expect when I stopped taking it. Oddly enough, nothing happened. Nothing whatsoever. I got very lucky!
So that's my info. and experience regarding suboxone. I don't know if this post has done anything for you. If not, there is plenty of information about suboxone here at medhelp from members ... and/or 'google' it! Whichever choice you make, stay in touch and let us all hear from you, okay?
