Got two scripts- is it ok?

I get a monthly script of time release pain medicine MS-ER 15mg and I recently couldn't take the pain anymore and had a tooth ppulled, and the dentist gave me a script for 10 Vicodin 7.5 for the few days after the hole in my head is recovering. My questioin is , Is it wrong to get two scripts in same month? I don't think it should be a problem since I had an extraction, and vicodin is more of a breakthrough med where MS-ER is an extended release bassline med. I just don't want my Pain doc to think I'm doing something wrong, I'm probably going to tell him anyhow, I'm just wondering if it will be an issue. Thanks

Yes I am ONLY on the extended release med and were still adjusting and talked about breakthrough meds before. I am going to let him know, and I do not have a contract though, NOT that I see any other docs for meds AT ALL, but its not breaking contract. I have already taken a few of them, absess tooth extraction, anyone would have to take them.

Definitley call and tell your PM doc BEFORE you take any of the vicodin.  This is especially important if you have signed a contract with your PM doc becuase otherewise you very well could be violating you rcontract and end up gettting dismissed by your PM, losing your current pain control.

Explain to your PM doc that you had a painful tooth extraction and the dentist gave you the vicodin, but you wanted to check with him (the PM doc) whether it was ok to take it or not.  Offer, if he does not want you to take it, to turn the full vicodin bottle in to him, so that he knows you will not be taking it.

Your PM doc MAY tell you it's ok if you are ONLY on an extended releae med, as many PM docs also prescribe an immediate release med to their patients for breakthrough pain - however, you need to let your PM doc make that decision and not just assume that it's ok even though you currently are only on an extended release med.

Best of luck.
