HELP!

After being assaulted by a student, I underwent surgery, injections, physical therapy, on and on and on. The only relief I get is from opiates. Used methadone for a year very successfully, but doc stopped practicing. Most docs have less than 10 hours of pain management training, they're all suspicious, and uncompassionate. I know there are many people who deceive doctors and don't really need the opiates. I do need them, and am inadequately medicated with Percocet. Does anyone know of a pain doc who isn't a Nazi? I live South of Boston, Massachusetts.

Hello Craymae,

I am so sorry you were attacked and are still suffering pain. I'll start with your last question. Mepergan Fortis (meperidine and promethazine). It is also called Demerol (pain opiate)  and Phenergan (an anti-nausea medication). It is a tablet that contains the two medications. It is effective for pain. It is usually used short term but here are a few physicians that will perscribe it long term.

You did not share what injury you sustained when attacked so I am not sure from where your pain originates so I can't suggest a specialist. But pain is pain no matter where is may be. I am not sure if or how your state deals with prescribing CP sufferers pain medication. In my state it is a PCP that handles their own CP patients. PMP are only found at the PM Clinics. They do not prescribe pain medications or follow CP patients. They basically do treatments and make recommendations. So that is the first thing you need to know is your states prescribing guidelines.

I would goggle pain management physicians included your state. Your search should bring up some physicians names that will treat pain. I'm sorry I cannot give you a better answer. Your search for a physician that will treat your pain may take sometime but don't give up.  Many of us have been where you are or are still there. I can relate.

What I do suggest is you never give up. A physician some where will beleive you and will treat you. Be open and honest when you describe your pain. Do not quit until you locate a physician that will listen to you. Remember they work for us. Hang in there.

Please let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates. Best of luck to you and as always, Take Care, Tuck

I wonder if you have pain clinics there like we do in TN.  Start there.  Take any x-rays, medical info that you have or go get your medical records.  Percocet is so addicting but then to isnt most pain meds?  I understand your pain.  I have had surgery on back and looking at it again.  I take valium at night and somas when I need them.  All the other pain meds make me soooooooooo sick.  Well except for mepergan and most Dr. dont want to prescribe it but yet they throw the vicodin, oxys at ya.  Go figure.  I even try to take pain meds with a phenagrin pill but I still puke.
