I dont know if I can legally fill my new vicodin script.. Any intelligent guesses?

I've been on vicodin es for close to 4 years. My dr had written me a prescription that had 1 refill left on it and then I was injured in a fall so he increased my dose from 1 pill twice a day up to 1 pill 4 times a day with a new written prescription. I called the pharmacy to refill the original prescription and I was informed that because he uped the dose that one is no longer valid (even though my dr said it would be okay but hes on vacation so theres nothing he can do from out of state.) It just so happens though that I have a paper script for regular vicodin my dentist wrote on 10-26-12 (my dr knows and he told me he didnt mind if I filled it either) but I'm not sure if 1. Its valid anymore 2. The legality of filling it (my phamacy is a bunch of strict d-bags). What do you guys think? Should it be okay for me to fill it in the a.m.?

Thank you ladys :) I went today and explained to the pharmacy what happened and why I had the additional prescription, they were very understanding and filled it for me

You mentioned you were concerned about the legality of it too that is why I mentioned what I did. Your pharmacy may not fill it because your only supposed to get narcotics from one prescribing doctor. Laws are very strict on this sort of thing nowadays.

Prescriptions for narcotics are good for 6 months from the date it was written. Hope that helps.

Its my family dr who writes my prescriptions, so I have no contract to speak of.. Hes allowed me to do the same thing in the past ad well. He knows and trusts me. I've been seeing him for 26 years, I just was unsure if the prescription was still valid :/.

I would make sure I had something in writing from your PM doc saying they say its ok for you to get the script filled that was written by your dentist.  I personally would not jeopardize my PM care by doing this because I would always worry that the office wouldn't note it in your records and I would be afraid of being dismissed because more then likely you signed a contract with your pm doc that you would only get meds from him. I hope someone else can help you better.
Good luck to you

Also, I live in ohio. I know the law varies from state to state.
