The best thing to do would be to call a pharmacist and ask them if there would be any drug interactions between the antibiotic and either one of the pain meds. To the best of my knowledge, there are no interactions between pain meds and antibiotics, because I have been on various pain meds for the last 10 years now and have taken many different antibiotics in that time with no problem, but not being a trained, licensed medical person I cannot TELL you to take anything. The percocet will probably work better for you than the ultram, but then, I am NOT a fan of ultram.
Ear infections can be HORRIBLY painful! My DH had swimmer's ear early last summer, and it was so bad that the inside part of his ear swelled up and actually bubbled OUT like it was prolapsed or something. It is the only time in the 12 years we have been together that I have seen him cry, because he just could NOT stand the pain any longer.
I wish you the best with this and hope you're feeling better REAL soon! Oh, by the way, you can take ibuprofen along with the percocet even though the percocet already has tylenol in it, because ibuprofen and acetominophen are able to be taken together. Just don't take more tylenol along with it, because that will be too much tylenol and it could damage your liver.
i have had major ear pain (which i believe is a bad infection) for 3 days and I am going to dr. tomorrow. Ibuprofen or Tyelonol are not helping!! any suggestions?
Tuckamore is correct but to be on the safe side call your pharmacist to be sure. I know I have taken my pain meds with many different antibiotics so you should be fine.
I hope your feeling better very soon:)
Hello Victoria,
welcome to the pain management forum of MedHelp. I am sorry you are having such ear pain. In my opinion you can take either pain med. The Motrin should be enough out of your immediate system it won't interact with either med. Just be cautious to stick with one and not mix them up.
I hope your earache is soon better. They can be so miserable.
Take Care, Tuck
