I was just prescribed the Duragesic Pain Patch

I have severe pain in my feet and can hardly walk. I was so desperate the other day I even called the suicide hot line. Can anyone tell me of side effects. Also, has anyone tried accupuncture. Thank you for your time.

One more thing, as far as the withdrawls, My Doctor told me that if ever I do not need the Patch anymore that he would make the transition comfortable as I'm sure your Doctor will. I think extrmeski did not have the help of the Doctor...Please don't let that frighten you........

Hi Yobo,

I'm glad you found us at MedHelp. I am so sorry you are having so much pain. I am glad you finally have some pain relief. Mollyrae did a very good job of answering your question regarding the Fentanyl Patch. Unfortunately I tried it and was allergic to it. My mother is currently using it and prior to recieving it she was in severe non-stop, couldn't stand it pain. It took just 5 hours before she was comfortable. A God-sent for her also.

Now the accupunction I can respone to as I have tried it. It cost me 75 dollars a session and I obtained no relief what-so-ever. I did go 5 sessions and it was relaxing but that is the only positive I can report. I beleive it was just posted a few days ago that another memer had  tried several sessions also. He claimed he obtained no relief. In my opinion it is not often that it is effective but when it is ppl clain great relief.

Take care and please let us know how you are doing. Tuck

the only downside to the patches are they are the worse to w/d from.  So be prepared to be on them forever.  They work well as they are 80 times stronger than morphine.  If you ever have to w/d from them, be prepared to be sick of months on end, up to a year until you will feel "normal".

Hello yobo and welcome to MH.

I have been using the 75mcg Patch for about 8 months now and it has been a god send. There are some uncomfortable side effects with the Patch for the first month or so and they may want to make you stop using the Patch but don't if you can help it, they will go away.
During the first 2 weeks in the mornings I experienced nausea along with dizziness  but  after I was up for about an hour they would disappear. This continued to lessen as the weeks rolled on. In the evening I had the night sweats and occasional sweats during the day if I over did it by trying to do too many things I had to catch up on. These also disappeared as the weeks went on.

By the end of 4 weeks or so I was feeling pretty normal excet for the occasonial night sweat and not being able to sleep. That is another side effect....The first day of every patch I wear I find that I do not sleep well. Your dreams can become vivid and those started when I started wearing the Patch. I still have them...Sometimes they scare the daylights out of me.

All in all, the sides will go away. I informed my Doctor of the sides when I started the Patch and he told me that they would get better and they did. So hang in there and don't give up right away.

The best thing about the Patch is you get round the clock relief.........

Take care and good luck,
Mollyrae
PS- The Patches are for opiate tolorant ppl only so I take it you've been on opiates recently.   Have not tried accupuncture :-)
