Is this Normal?

Hello,
I broke my Ulna a month back and had it casted for 4 weeks. Today the cast has been removed but my wrist is in pain. The swelling on the hand is not there but the wrist area is a bit swollen and somewhat DEFORMED. I can move my wrist a bit making small "O" , but as I move my forearm there is pain and its like I cannot move my forearm to the full extent.
Well, My major concern is about the DEFORMITY of the wrist, though in MRI the alignment was normal.
And up to what time period will I be able to move my wrist efficiently as my exams are round the corner!!
Thanks!

Hello Ashie,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am sorry to hear about your wrist and concern of deformity. Please ask your orthopedic physician his thoughts.

After a fracture and extended period of casting and non-use you may see what appears like a deformity of the area. If the fracture was "set" properly and it was not extreme it should return to normal looking...or pretty close in time. You'll probably require some physical therapy to strengthen those muscle and tissues that have not been utilized for four weeks. Muscles atrophy when not is use and will change the appearance of the limb.

Give it some time but be sure to talk to your physician. He/she will have the correct answers for you. Best of luck. Please let us know what you find out.

Peace,
~Tuck

Hello Tuckamore,
Thanks for the reply. I consulted my pysician today. He told the same for the deformity, and advised some physio-exercises. I've started doing them and i am looking forward to a fast recovery.

You people are doing really a great job for the mankind. :)

Thanks.
Ashie.
