It's back and worse than ever...

I had 3 or 4 days where almost all of my pain (especially the sciatica) was just...gone...but now it's back, and it's worse.  I attributed the improvement to the fact that I was taking Celexa (started it on Wednesday), but I'm still taking it and yeah...
Just wondering what this might be about...on top of everything else I still have yet to here from the physical therapist to whom I was theoretically referred.

I guess...but I had chronic pain before I got pregnant, and most of it hasn't gotten worse since the pregnancy started...I guess some of them probably do have sciatica...I'll ask about that.
I tried calling, regarding the PT, and they're just like "Kathleen made the referral on Monday".

i didn't mean regular pains from child-rearing, i mean that there statistically must be some pregnant women who must also have more serious pains like yourself. it is worth trying, i'm sure some of them would have sciatica. sorry your not so good, keep us all updated, we like to know how you are doing.
good luck with the celexa, give it at least a few weeks or months even. they can be very slow to help. it would be good if you could somehow hurry up the PT in the meantime.

Yeah, I'm in the august '09 pregnancy forum, but I dunno...if it were just the prenancy related stuff then I probably would ask but the other pain is worse as well.  Actually, at this point it's all gone back to normal, well, how it was before a few days ago.  I think it's probably somewhat related to how much sleep I get.
My mood's not much different, although they put me on Celexa, so it should be better in a few weeks.  I really wish that the physical therapist would hurry up and call because stairs are hard enough without nerve pain from the sciatica on top of everything else.

hi,

good to see you back here again but sorry it's because you aren't feeling well.
i know there are pregnancy forums on this site, i was wondering if you had asked them for thier advice? I know that various pains are common for women during pregnancy and you might get more ideas by posting on multiple forums.
i am also wondering how your mood is. last time i think you weren't doing so well. how are you now? any better? i hope so, good luck finding answers to your problems.

Nick.

I have a couple different kinds of pain, sciatica is just the only one I have an explanation for.  I've thought about a teen pregnancy support group, and will be taking a childbirth class directed at teenagers pretty soon, I would love to talk to other people my age who are doing this.  There's a girl at my school who has a kid (the kids like 18 months now), who I can talk t in a theoretical capacity, but since it is very intentionally not known at my school, she's not as much of a resource as she otherwise would be.
Heat helps a little with the pain, which works out since I spend a lot of time lying in front of a space heater anyway (I'm -always- cold), but lying on my side doesn't...and nothing seems to help with the shoulder, hand, and arm pain I have.  Tylenol does nothing but that may be because the Tylenol I have is bad (it has failed other people for other kinds of pain), not because acetaminophen is ineffective.

Hi Kage,

I am sorry that your pain has returned. According to my PCP, who is the mother of 3 young children, pregnancy often causes sciatica due to the movement and pressure on your SIJ (sacroiliac joints). She too experienced it. If I read your posts and profile correctly that is the pain that you are referring to. If I have misunderstood I apologize.

Have you seen a DO (Doctor of Osteopathy)? They are often able to gently manipulate the SIJ and ease your discomfort safely. Heat, massage, rest, positioning and manipulations are helpful in easing my sciatic. Sitting often increases the pain. The good news is usually after delivery the SIJ returns to normal and sciatica is relieved.

Good luck to you. I hope you are able to find relief from your sciatica.I will look forward to your updates.

Hi Kage:

The further along in the pregnancy you become, the worse the pain will be. The baby's weight can pull on those back muscles among other things and make you really uncomfortable. It's all a part of being pregnant. This pain will get worse before it get better. You will have good weeks and bad weeks. Just try and go with the flow. Try and learn some relaxation techniques. They might just might help you with the pain. A Psychologist who deals with pain issues might be a good place to start. I really hope that you have thought about a Teen Pregnancy Support Group. Something that is personal and not from the Internet.  You are so young and have so much to learn. Please take care and good luck.
