Doctors have no clue…I’m at a loss.

So I just turned 21 and I’ve been having health/pain problems for nearly 3 years now, and the doctors are stumped they’ve tested me for everything they could think of.  I have muscle/joint pain everyday all the time some days I can’t even move without horrible pain. I get extremely tight muscles and muscle knots/spasms. I have motor-sensory neuropathy, lack of feeling in hands/feet, tingling, needles, all that stuff. Sometimes I can’t walk at all its like my legs are numb and won’t respond and I fall down a lot. They’ve proved these things are wrong with me but don’t know what’s causing them. Now I’m starting to have breathing problems and they don’t know why. The pains getting worse each day and I don’t know what to do anymore, I’m afraid I won’t be able to walk one day.

Other health issues:
Tachycardia
Sleep Apnea
Don’t have a period without taking birth control
Can’t regulate body temp when it’s cold out
Poor circulation

I so sorry to hear of your problems..My wife, deceased now, suffered from alot of things that you mentioned and it turned out to be sevral problems not just one..We are at a time when we should realize that not all doctors are great or for that matter some shouldn't even be doctors. Don't get discourged because they are having trouble figureing it out but also understand that the human body is a very complex thing. Just as was told to you before don't except "I don't know " as a finale answer. As long as your doctor is still looking he is doing his best at that point...Be warned if you are going to try other Doctors or clincs that it might be wise to get your doctor to refer you for a mental eval as with my wife they started saying it was a mental problem and this was very hard for her to handle as she looked at it like she was putting me through all of this and it wasn;t real but as I told her we will find out the medical reason for it and we did. Her problems were different from yours but because she had 3 different disorders they over lapped each other and made it very hard to get the right answers.
Please get yourself to a real Pain Mgmt doctor so he can help with the pain until you find out what it is. Be careful in that area because there are good pain mgt specialist and then threre are the "doctor feel goods" the later can get you killed they are the ones who basicly say give me $100.00 and tell me what you want. The former will put you threw hoops until they know that you are trying to treat a real problem then they can reduce your pain to something you can live with and still function. Using a Pain Mgmt specialist would be like takingt your car to a car mechanic for its repairs instead of a lawn mower repair shop. They know about pain as they specialize in stopping it and still leaving you functional.
I also have had several of your problems, except no prob with period as guys don;t have that one. Numbness in left arm, tingling in lift hand, severe muscle cramps, balance problems. Well they found after a while that I was diabetic, then after they got that under control they found that my potassium level was very low, this is dangerous, and then they found a vertibre, in my neck, was puting some pressure on my spinal cord of course they wanted to do surgey and fuse my disk together and when I said sure and you will grty that it will cure my pain. He said there are no grty in medicine as everyone is different. Well with all the other problems taken care of the Pain Mgmt doctor was able to give me enough relief from the rest of my pain that ;ife is pretty good now..
Hope for the best for you and remember Doctors are human the same as we are so make them keep looking until you get some answers.....

Have you heard of Pain Management doctors?  They are special doctors that tell you how to handle your pain, and prescribe the appropriate medications you need for your pain.  Like, Tuckamore said, try out a hospital/clinic.  As far as I know, most hospitals have pain clinics as there called.

Hello Sylverfly,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. Wow, I am so sorry that you have all these undiagnosed, frightening and painful symptoms. My heart goes out to you.

I have to be honest that anything I could offer you in the way of a diagnosis would be a poor guess. Have you had brain imagining?  Have they investigated your endocrine system to assure that it is functioning properly. Have they looked at autoimmune possibilities?

What I can suggest is that you not take an, I don't know" for an answer. Be assertive. Your symptoms are obvious mystifying your physicians. That does not make them ignorant nor uncaring. Another physician may look at all your symptoms and suddenly see something that others have not seen. There are some great nationally know clinics and medical facilities. If I were in your situation I would make an appointment with one and I would continue doing that until someone could give me a answer as to what your symptoms mean.

Have you been to a large university hospital/clinic? I may start there before I ask to be referred to the national ones. When one or two symptoms are not related to the others, clinically the picture can be difficult to see clearly. Meaning your symptoms could be from a single condition or they could actually be from two or more conditions which makes diagnosis even more complicated.

Others will post that may have a better response. I am sorry that I can not be of more assistance in your search. Just please don't give up. Don't get discouraged though I imagine that can be difficult to do some days. We are here to support you. Please let us know how you are doing. I will be very interested in hearing f your progress.

Best of Luck to You and Take Care,
Tuck
