Hi Jimgreg,
I think you may be asking for clarification on the post Sandee1818 made regarding tolerance.
There are several schools of thought on this. Mollyrae explained it well. Some physicians beleive that the pain increases over time and therefore your dose needs to be adjusted. Other physicians beleive your body develops a tolerance to the narcotic and therefore you need more of the drug to obtain the same relief.
Your pain appears to support the theory that your body dose not develop any significant tolerance as you are now on a lesser dose. My PCP would agree with you. I am somewhere in between but tend to agree with my PCP. I was fine on the same dose for years. As my condition deteriorated (measurably) I required a dose increase. I also know others that have been on the same dosage for more than five years and than their condition deteriorated and they needed either a change of medication or an increase.
Even the medical community cannot agree on this subject so I doubt we can solve the controversy here. But you have our opinions, what do you think? Thanks for asking a very good question. Take Care, Tuck
I'm not sure who you question was directed to.
Tolorance happens when your on a certian medication for a long period of time and your body starts to become so use to the drug that it is not as effective as it should be. Some ppl think that the body becomes more painful over time and that is totally possible and they feel the need for an increase. I think that might be the case for some of us but not all. I also think that because you've been on a med for so long, it just doesn't work like it did when you were first prescribed the medication. That is tolorance build up.
I hope I explained the question you were trying to ask.
Molly
