Methadone & Anathesia
I have been taking methadone for six months as a way to control cronic lower back pain. I have had numerous injuries over the years to my back, hands, legs, nose/face. I have been injected by the pain doctors with the old reliable lumbar punture, 24 times. So far the methadone has literally given me my life back. Shortly after being released from active reserve call up for desert storm, I started having various medical problems, Chronic fatigue,
Sleep problems, Depression, etc. I already have Hypothyroidism, Arthritis, (Both kinds), Kidney Stones in both kidney's, (7 procedures to have blocked stones removed). and the list keeps getting bigger. Last year I started having swollowing problems. I went through the various tests and was told I just needed to take a few different medications. Things got worse and now I get severe pain in my throat because once I eat, The foods gets stuck in the base of my throat, After they did and MRI, I was told there is swollen glands and a few other things which they don't understand. I am unable to have that ENT camera put into my nose mainly because I have only one normal sinus, A result of several broken noses. They now want me to be put under general anaesthesia so that they can look at my throat and possibly take a biopsy to determine if it may be cancer. I can live with all of this but I have one major hurdle. I prefer not to tell them I'm taking methadone for the cronic pain. They would want me to use their pain program which does not include long term usage of methadone. I am really happy again as it applies to my cronic pain management. I presently take 150mg BID. The procedure will only take some thirty to forty minutes from what I was told. I will not permit them to do any other procedures at this time. If I do have cancer it can wait a few extra weeks to decide. Can anyone give me something to really do and consider. Thanks to all who would help.

I would weigh my options, maybe get a second opinion. It sounds like the methadone is working for you. Why would you have to do their pain man. program?
If you go under general anaesthesia and take methadone without informing the anaesthesiologist you stand a good chance of death.
It is not fair to the physicians to place them in this situation.

Maybe have the doctor who prescribes your medication talk to the ENT and explain that your pain management is being taken care of.
I hope it works out for you. It seems odd that they would want you to be on their PM program just to have a procedure done.
