Old Scar Main

I have a scar that's about 6-8 years old, from a (graphite) pencil stabbing into my leg, and it still causes me some... sensitivity, for lack of a better word... If it is even vaguely grazed by anything, even something as small as a piece of string, it sends a spike of pain through my leg. Previously, as a simple curiosity, I poked a small hole into the scar about a year ago, and bled it. It did bleed, and the pain went away for about two days.

My question is, is this normal at all, or should I go to a doctor?

The pencil only went about as deep as the beginning of the paint, after the sharpened area... It started to cause me more pain recently.

I apologize if I am posting this in the wrong place. I just went with what Google popped up when I was looking on the first page, lazily, for more information. :P

Hello Morgan,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post. Sometimes even a small injury can be irritation for years.

I am not sure why you are having such pain with this pencil lead....but as Sara suggested I encourage you to see a physician. It does sound like it's either pressing on a nerve or is just irritating the area. At any rate I would have it checked out.

Best of Luck to You,
~Tuck

Hi Morgan:  Sorry to hear about your pain but it does sound as though you need to see a doctor.  I've no idea what's causing this although I do suspect some type of nerve problem.  As none of us here are doctors, just chronic pain patients, we usually aren't going to diagnose anything.  Too many variables.  So yes, go to the doctor.
