Day 5 dr said it would be bad and it is!

Day 5 isn't turning out to be so good for my son. Last night he woke me up at 3am cause he was in so much pain, this is the first time since the surgery we have had to get up at night. I gave him his OTC meds and some apple sauce and his water. Then when the meds kicked in I put him back to bed. A couple hours later he came back in my room said he was in pain and wanted to sleep in my room so I let him. It was to soon for his meds. Then when I woke him up at 730 he started crying in pain so I gave him another dose of his OTC meds. Now it is 9:41 and it is asking for more meds cause he is in pain and I told him no cause he can't have anymore til 1130 so I gave him a icy and he is eating that now and it seems to help. He also said his stomach was hurting and I asked him where and he pointed at his belly botton, I thought great could be his appendix. So I am going to keep a eye on that to see if it gets worse and if it does or it moves to his right side like mine did when I had to have mine out I will take him to the ER. He also has gas so I am thinking that is the problem so we will see. I'm hoping he will feel better really soon so he can get back to normal. Thanks for listening.

Sorry to hear that your son is having a longer than expected recovery. Ices or anything real cold should help and you might want to try to give that more often. His tummy may be hurting from the OTC meds he is requiring. Try to make sure he has something in his tummy before giving them.

You might also want to give him the Lortab. Mom's have great persuasive powers so use yours. If he understand that the Lortab will make his pain better he may give it a try now.

If his throat pain continues to cause him so much pain I would certainly contact his physician today. I would think that after five days he would be feeling better.

Please let us know how he is doing. I know how heartbreaking it is when our children are in pain, no matter what their age.

Good luck and hang in there.

My Dear Friend,

I'm so VERY sorry that your sweet "baby"  is in so much pain. I wish there was some magic wand that you could wave and make this 3 weeks from now and he'd be back playing baseball and be a happy, healthy and active little boy again!!!

As hard as it is on him, I KNOW this is even harder on you having to watch him and not being able to get rid of that pain for him. I know you wish you could take all of that and he not have to have any of it.

Try to keep in mind that THIS IS DAY 5 and it's going to be over soon and hopefully the Dr. is correct and he will begin to get better tomorrow.

Just know that you are doing EVERYTHING right and it helps him SOOOO much just having you right there to hold him and love him and tell him that IT WILL GET BETTER SOON.

I'm hoping that the pain in his stomach is only from all the pain that he is in and has been in for soooo long now.

Hang in there, Jamie and PLEASE try to rest whenever he does so you can keep up your strength for him. Just know that we all love and care about you here and are ALWAYS here for you at anytime!!!

You give that sweet boy another hug from this "NamNam" (if he doesnt' think that it's too corny) and let him know that he also hs LOTS of friend here that are keeping him and his sweet Mom and Dad in our thought and prayers!!!

Take Care......Sherry

I'm sorry to hear that Austin is having such a rough day.  Tuck said the same thing I was going to say about the OTC meds possibly at least adding to his stomach pain, but yes, definitely keep an eye on it and make sure it doesn't either move to the lower right side or he doesn't start running a fever.  If he begins running a fever, even if teh pain hasn't moved, it may very well warrant a trip to at least the doctor's office, if not the ER - appendicitis doesn't always HAVE to move to the right side.

If you are able to convince him to give the Lortab a try, mix it in with some applesauce or juice - anything that normally tastes good to him so it will help mask the flavor of the meds.  It may even work better if he agrees to try the meds, tell him that you will give it to him in a little bit, then go in the kitchen or somewhere he isn't, mix it in whatever you're going to give him to eat/drink and give it to him without telling him it's in there.  I know that sounds kinda mean, but I know even with me, if I know that something is going to taste nasty, even if I've mixed it in with something tasty, I still get that gagging feeling even before it hits my mouth.  Maybe if he doesn't realize it's already mixed in with his food or drink, it'l make it easier to get it past his lips.  Of course, I definitely don't condone lying to a child normally, but sometimes a mom's gotta do what a mom's gotta do to make her child feel better.

I hope he starts feeling better and the both of you can get a nap in - I'm sure you're ready for one with being up so much during the night.

Keep us posted on how he's doing.

I talked to the dr and she said he should be feeling better. I guess on day 5 the scabs start to form and that is what is causing all the pain. They couldn't believe he has went through 2 bottles of OTC pain meds. I had to go get the 3rd one today. He is sleeping right now and snoring like crazy lol his nose is so stuffy cause of the surgery on his nose the poor thing. Plus it is hot here and that don't help. We are in for some strong storms tonight so he is looking forward to that, he LOVES storms but not tornado's, we have a tornado watch right now. We are going to try to go watch his team play their first game tomorrow. I am going to make sure we go AFTER the game has started that way there is no way he can bug me to play. We are hoping he can play on Tuesday but not sure if he can. He keeps trying to over do it and I know that isn't helping the pain at all. thanks for all the kind words agan, you guys have help me out more ways then one and I thank you so much for that.
