Negative urine result for Vicodin , when I take it daily?

I have been on Vicodin for 2 years or longer, for my back pain, I have had back surgery and I am still in pain... I had to take a urine test last month, the nurse said it was fine... I came back this month and the Dr. said my test was negative.. I told him i take my meds everyday... one in the morning  and one in the afternoon... I also take several other meds, Toperol for high blood pressure, Chloestrol meds, Dilation for seisures, asprin daily, Nexium for stomach, Mobic for athritis, Xanax very seldon for stress, Ambien for sleep.... I felt very degraded when the dr told me he could give me any meds ... I asked him to take another test he did and the nurse said it was negative... I know something is wrong I always take my pills...I also drink water all day long, once in a while I will have a glass of tea... I cant drink juice , pop , or milk because it hurts my stomach.... my question is can any of those other drugs cause me to have a negative urnine for Vicodin?.... Thanks So Much !!!

Sandy... I have spent the last hour or so reading your journals... I am still quite confussed.. in the one journal it states ..( inducer or inhibitor drugs, that strongly influence opioid metabolism and, hence, their detectable presence or absence in urine (or blood, or oral )  I dont understand what would be considered inducer or inhibitor drugs to what I am taking? Vicodin?......... this is confusing... is it saying there are drugs that will cause me to test false negative?.. and what would they be? Im lost

Thanks for your reply... and Sandy I will definetly check out your posts... I appreciate the info very much.. I didnt know about a hair test...and the day after I left the Dr. office I cried all day... I called them the next morning which was 12 hours appox... and asked them to do a Blood test they refused.. The next morning soon as possible around 10 am... I got in to take my own test I figure all together it was around 22 hours after the other test... and at this point I believe the Dr. wont help me anyways... I took the test so they can at least have it in my records and my concern was maybe something was wrong with my urine or his testing?... the nurse did ask me if I was taking something over the counter to make me not test positve.. I said I dont know... she said a diet pill maybe?,,,, I said no but I do drink about 12 glasses a water a day... and I had recently been walking two miles a day to try and get my back better...to which I havent exercized in over a year... thought maybe all that water was flushing me out? I really dont know anything about all this.... other then I was deveasted to be accused of this... and Ladyecho...sounds like you have a Great Dr.... I thought I did... I have been going to him since 2008 ... and yet the last appt. he didnt even know I had Epilepsy? I know they have alot of patients but for real he was suggesting meds that could cause me to have more seisures without even looking at my records... I had just came to the conclusion he really didnt care about my health ... or he would have tried to help me figure out why my testing was negative .... I as a patient am asking for the testing ? and he wont give it to me? then something is wrong.... maybe its his EGO and he doesnt want to be proved wrong... I guess his pride is more important then my health... and in the end thats what truely hurt ... to have all this faith in a Dr. and feel like they care.... and to just be treated like that.... Its Disrespect!!!! and I dont treat people like that... I dont know what has happened to this world! anyways.... Ladyecho.... I do have stomach problems .... I had my gallbladder out years ago... and like I said I cant drink pop or juice... as soon as it hits my stomach it doubles me over in pain... milk just gives me gas.... so I drink water all day that seems to help... allthough Id love a POP!!! ....I dont know that my digetstive system would cause this?                 I have had the same problem myself. 3 times in a row my Avinza(Morphine) did not show in my test. The doctor ,Thank God, beieved me and continued to give my meds. He has since switched the meds to another form of Morphine, and.....we are now finding out that I am having some kind of Digestive problem. Could this be the case?? I don't know yet, but I will post when I find out. I have to now have a Ultrasound of my Gall Bladder, an HIDA with CCK, an EGD, and a Colonoscopy. OH HAPPY DAY!!!
I do understand how you feel. They treat you like DIRT if they think your not taking your meds!!!

Hi,
  I hope your test comes back showing the medication in your system. You can get a hair strand test also. These test go back 60 to 90 days and are reliable. I am afraid that even if the test you paid for shows the medications in your system the Doctor will just assume you took some for the test to be correct.
When did you get the test done, how long after your last appointment?
You can look in my journal pages for the known drugs to cause unreliable test and also an article done on the test and how unreliable they are done by the VA.
I really hope you get a new Doctor and things work out.
I know how frustrating it is to know you took your medications and the test says you did not. it makes you feel like your seen as a liar and just depressed. if you need to talk let me know:)

I am still waiting results of my testing ... once I have that done Im going to take the advise of Tuck and send a letter with the reseluts to the DR. I also think Im going to send it in a certified letter that way I know they have to sign for it and will be proof on my end that it will be or should be placed in my file...after that Im going to request my records and see if all is in my files...I m going to then go to my family Dr. and explain to her what happened and see If I can get another referal.... I have to have hope... I ts all I have left at this point... VERY DEPRESSED!!!.... Thanks Again!!!!....... Wv Sweetgal

I'm sorry that you're dealing with this. Yes. Your doctor legally has to give you a copy of your records. They can leave parts out if they think that something that was written will be harmful for you to read. I would call them and tell them that you would like to pick up a copy. They usually make you pay for them. I don't know how much.

It's good that you got a test done yourself. It doesn't sound like your doctor is even willing to work with you. Can you find another doctor? I know that it's easier said than done, but you need someone to take over your medical care.

I will keep checking back, and make sure to respond when you write. The board has been slow lately.

Thanks So Much Tuck for your reply... My Problem is I hate to accuse the nurse of doing anything wrong but in all honesty there is something wrong... I have however.. did some reseach since this post and the following day I went and borrowed the money , since I am on a very limited income to have an independent testing done myself. I am still waiting results of that testing... I also called the Dr. office back and ask them to do a blood test , the Dr. refused to do one... I told the nurse I was very upset and was even crying... I felt like if I was his patient shouldnt it be his responsiblity to help me... she said she would talk to the Dr. and he never did call me back... I have about 20 pills left I just have been breaking them in half now to try and ween myself off of them.... I dont even care if they dont ever give them to me anymore... Truth is when I take them  Im still in pain...I appreciate your help... as Soon as I get my results from the other lab I intend to take that and a letter up to the office and have them put them in my records... But sad thing is I dont think I will be going back to this Dr any more... Im not going to be degraded like that... I ve been very stressed out and crying all week... and I have two young teenagers I have to take care of, and this whole situation has been devasting to me...I guess my next question is ? Do they have to by law give me copies of my records? and I fear he wont give them all to me ... and fear that new Dr. will think that I am lieing?...Anyways I appreciate your talking with me so much !!! Hello Sweetgal,

Your problem is all too familiar of an occurrence. In all probability nothing you drank or consumed played a factor in your negative drug screen. It surprised me to learn the high incident of false negatives. The primary reason is human error....sometimes the chain of custody is lacking or improper labeling...and number of factors can be the fault.

There is little recourse. PMP must have a policy and procedure set in place and followed. This is mandated by the DEA and physicians run the risk of losing their licenses if they don't abide by it. Sad, but true...they can make no exceptions.

What you need to do know is search for a new PMP. Begin that search now! You'll soon be out of meds and face withdrawal. If you have a trusted PCP ask him/her for a referral. I would also write a letter to the PM Clinic attesting to the fact that you take your meds as prescribed and that you believe the results of the drug screen to be a false negative...possibly human error. It may not help you now but it will go into your file which may help you down the road.
