Hello and Welcome to the Pain Management Forum.

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with Medicaid. I know nothing about the insurance or how they cover. Ashelen has offered her suggestions and information. I think she is knowledgeable....and always eager to help.

I highly doubt that the state got you or your daughter "hooked on oxi's."  You apparently have or had pain and a medical need....it was offered to you to manage your pain. I call that humane. I also doubt anyone made you take it. "Hooked" by the state sounds as if you require detox as Ashelen suggested. If you had pain I would bet you were very glad to have something that was effective in treating it. I know I would have been. I honestly think they were trying to help you. Physicians or the "state" are NOT known to just hand out narcotics willy nilly with no regard to one's well being.

I wish you the best and hope this will all work out for you. Please let us know how you are doing. We'll look forward to hearing from you again.

Peace,
~Tuck

No I"m the one that's sorry then! Most likely if you arrange with your doctor's office then, medicaid will retroactively pay any bills that you incur during the lapse...so I would contact your doctor's office and say "look, I get my coverage back on "X" day...can we set up a bill so that you can bill them when my coverage lapse is over, so I can come in NOW?". Most doctors who realize their patients are dependent TRY to at least work with you so you don't have to go through withdrawals.

Best of luck..just contact your doctor and/or medicaid and explain that you MUST be seen NOW and you cannot wait until the coverage is sorted out. They have ways to handle these situations...I hope very much that you get it figured out!

Sorry I meant oxycontin....the only difference between running out of Oxycontin and running out of oxycodone (short-acting versions) will be the length of withdrawals. Oxycontin will cause significantly longer withdrawals, if what I'm reading is correct, so I think you need to look for some help and most likely you will have to pay out of pocket. Why did you lose your coverage?

I'm sorry I don't understand. How do you get what? More oxycodone? You would have to go to a doctor's office for a script and pay out of pocket. Do you no longer qualify for medicaid, or did you simply miss the period to requalify? If you still qualify but are lapsing in your coverage, go see a doctor who accepts medicaid and is willing to bill and once your coverage is active again, medicaid will reimburse the office. I had to go through that when I was pregnant with my first.

Beyond that...paying out of pocket to see a doctor, not much you can do....I truly truly recommend you NOT go to illegal sources for your medicine. That is a dangerous road you can never turn back from. I do think that the first thing you should do is visit the Addiction: Substance Abuse forum here, because if you are out of your medicine you will probably need their help to manage withdrawals.

I personally would recommend going to a doctor and instead of asking for more oxycodone, ask for something to help you detox and come clean. Since you say "Hooked" I assume that you mean that you are addicted and not simply medically dependent......this is a good opportunity to make a huge change in your life, if you are ready.

I hope I don't sound harsh, I wish you the best of luck! There is a link to the Substance Abuse forum on the right hand column under "Related communities" if you scroll down, and they will have all sorts of tips on how to deal with withdrawals and/or come clean if that's what you're looking for.
