Hi Candy,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum of MedHelp. I am sorry to hear about your husbands accident. Two weeks of pain is not fun.

There are no physicians on this forum. We are a group of ppl that suffer from chronic pain. We come from all walks of life and backgrounds. There is a lot of information here but no of us claim to be specialists.

My best guess is when he exerted the energy to keep the quad from landing on him, he may have severely sprained some muscles and ligaments. It is also possible he fracture (break) a rib without the compression of the quad. I am guessing his adrenaline kicked in when he moved that machine and the force of his quick motion could have injured his ribs, either causing a fracture, dislocation or a severe sprain. Sprains are very painful and require a lot of time to heal. Indeed they can be more painful than a fracture.

The obvious advice is that he should see his PCP. He will probably benefit from an x-ray or two. The longer left untreated the more time and more complicated injuries can become. I trust he is using some heat and alternating it with ice several times a day and is regularly taking NSAID, with food of course. NSAID's work best if they are taken routinely. If he takes IB he should be taking it at least three times a day to obtain the best anti-inflammatory results. I would encourage him to consult with his PCP.

Other's will post with their opinions and suggestions. Good luck to your husband. Please keep in touch and let us know how he is doing.  Peace, Tuck
