Pain management

E81
Hello all,
I am new here and yesterday was my first visit to a pain management specialist because I am not yet ready for another surgery. My last surgery was the second week of March, 2009, so, for obvious reasons I'd like to let my body heal for atleast another month or two.
As for my question, before yesterday I had been taking lortab and percocet for pain, yesterday I was prescribed an extended release morphine and lortab for breakthrough pain. I took the first tablet this morning and I like I am slow, mentally. Is this normal and will it last while I am on this medication? It is not to the point to where I cannot perform my job or drive, etc., but I feel like I just woke up. Nonetheless, my pain is actually managable right now, so I suppose it is worth feeling groggy, but I was wondering if anyone else was on this medication, and if this feeling goes away after a few days or weeks.
Thanks for thoughts in advance.

I started OXYCONTIN with PERCOCET for breakthrough pain the first week in Feb.
I tell you for over a month I had to STOP all activities especially driving!!
I was in a complete FOG, I get up take my meds and go back to bed for 2 hours by than at least the extreme SPACED OUT feelings would pass...but the meds left me extremely tired and foggy and flat feeling.
It does pass...took at least a month, fortunately I am on disability leave from work couldn't imagine trying to work while the body adjusts itself.....
good luck!

As Chronic Pain said it will take your body sometime to adjust to the medication. I would give it a month and if your still feeling this way talk to your doctor about other options you have available.
We all go through this at one time or another while trying to find a medication that is suited for us personally. I hope you are doing better very soon:)

Everyone's different, but when I first started the morphine it was the same. You'll get better used to it and it'll be in the background soon enough.
