Hello Me,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am so sorry to hear about your severe undiagnosed pain.

First never take 800-1000 mgs of Ibuprofen without your physicians prescribing it. At 16 it is much to high of a dose and could cause irreparable damage even if taken short term.

Pain above your hip and buttocks could be kidney related though your symptoms don't exactly match up. Of concern is why is your potassium level off and your WBC elevated? Normally the WBC elevates when there is an infection present in your body but in some causes it will elevate do to extreme inflammation.

My suggestion is that you have a complete and thorough clinical evaluation. If your current PCP is dismissing your pain it may be time to seek additional opinions. Because you are a minor it is your parents that will have to determine what course of action is taken regarding your undiagnosed pain.

Please let us know how you are doing. I will look forward to your updates.

Best of luck to you,
~Tuck~

Hi:

I doubt that it would be your Sciatica nerve in that area. What you really need is an MRI to see the big picture. The longer you have this type of pain, the more damage you could be doing.

My suggestion would be to see an Orthopedic Specialist. They are the most qualified to help you with your pain.

Your next step would be to inquire about Pain Management. There are numerous clinic out there. The web is a great place to start.

I hope this helps,
Be well,
Mollyrae

My friend had the exact same problem.. thats really odd. He just lived with it. He took some muscle relaxers and not Naproxin. Motrin is better by far. Get 800mg-1000mg Mortin. It eventually went away.

I ALSO watched Medical Mystery's the other night and saw something similar in a kid that usually happens in adults. If this does not go away and becomes so excruciating that you want to die... and you limp and you cant bend over get a referral to a Rheumatalogist. Tell them to get you an Xray and to do an MRI on your spine and hip.

I would tell your doctors you think it might be your sciatica nerve.. That can cause some of the worst pain.. I had it. Your dr would prescribe 2 muscle relaxers and possibly a steroid shot, for inflammation. I dont like being knocked out so I had them give me the mildest muscle relaxers they could. After taking for 2 weeks it started easing up tremendously and I have not had any problems since. Good luck
