Painful lump in Right Quad

Hello,
My name is Kris and I currently am a kicker/punter for a college football team in California. Over the last 3 years I have dealt with a lump in my leg that I believe to be something like a calcified hematoma in my right quad. It hurts to kick with this in my leg and I've tried massaging it, anti-inflammatory pills, 3 rounds of PT, taking a year off of football activities, and it is still there. I have experienced bruising, sharp pains and have had absolutely no success with figuring out what this is. I am just looking for some advice or someone that can point me in the right direction to get my career back on track. Nothing is showing up on MRI's or X-Ray's.

Thank you for the response Dr. Mathur! I will pursue an ultrasound and see if that helps. Is the color dopplar different than an ultrasound? If it is a clot in the vein or artery what would be a typical treatment for it? Would they just drain it or would it require surgery?

Hi!
Try and ask for an ultrasound of the lump. Sometimes the ultrasound picks up the nature of the lump or detects a lump missed by MRI. Also, it may be a clot in vein or artery. This would be picked up on a color dopplar.  Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
