If you do get drug tested and it shows up all you have to do is show them the bottle and that the meds are for you.
So many people come on this board and ask if certain drugs will show up in drug testing because they are taking meds that isn't for them and most people have contracts with their pain drs and if something shows up in the drug test that they shouldnt be on they get dropped from there dr. Most people that ask about drug testing that is the reason why.
I am sorry if your feelings was hurt.

Hi mag,

I'm sorry for all of the confusion on here. This is what I have found out. I'm going to give you some definitions.

Propoxy hcl is an Opiod. An Opiod includes all opiates but also include chemicals that have been synthesized in some way.

Opiates are derived directly from the opium poppy by departing and purifying the various chemicals in the poppy.

I've also found out that the Propoxy hcl or Darvocet is the LOWEST level of opiates that there are. They are a Schedule lV.  It is weaker than Codeine..

For instance - Morphine is an Opiod but NOT an Opiate

Morphine is considered both.

It said that 'Yes, it will show up and to just let them know that you are taking Darvocet or propoxy hcl."

I probably gave you WAY more information than you needed to know but now you l have the info. IF you need it.

I'm very sorry that it took so long!!!

Good Luck....Sherry

Just wanted to know if  the proproxy would show up as an opiate on a urine drug test because while reading the printout that came with MY PRESCRIPTION it stated that it is an opioid. I didn't know if that was the same thing as an opiate, and wanted to be prepared if it did show up on the random drug tests that the company I work for has done. Just for the record, it is my legal prescription, prescribed by my doctor, and I only take medicine that is prescribed FOR ME.................kind of resented the underlying implication!!! Not everyone who asks a drug test question is doing something questionable or trying to find out how to pass one because they know they are going to come up "dirty". Thanks for the information.

I'm sorry for the mistake.  This is what I read

Propoxyphene HCl 65 - General Information:
A narcotic analgesic structurally related to methadone. Only the dextro-isomer has an analgesic effect; the levo-isomer appears to exert an antitussive effect. [PubChem]

Pharmacology:
Propoxyphene HCl 65, a synthetic opiate agonist, is structurally similar to methadone. The analgesic effect of propoxyphene is due to the d-isomer, dextropropoxyphene. It binds to the opiate receptors and leads to a decrease of the perception of pain stimuli.

I have no idea, this is what I read when I looked it up.  I guess I should of stated that.  I've never heard of the drug.  I personally would never take anyones prescription medicine at any time.  It's against the law and would put me at huge risk in my pain management treatment.  If it isn't an opaite, doesn't mean that it won't show up in a urine test.  Some of these urine tests are very sophisticated and will show everything.

It is not considered an opiate, i.e derived from opium as morphine is for example, but both Darvocet and Tramadol are considered opioids (opiate like).

The FDA is on record saying Propoxyphene (Darvocet) is no more effective for pain then Tylenol.

I imagine it would.  It is an opiate very similar to methadone.  If you are having pain that is untreated, it's best to let your doctor know and not self medicate with other peoples prescription medications.  It could be very dangerous and it is also illegal.

Hi,

First let me welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know how happy we are that you have found us!! We are all CP ( Chronic Pain) Patients and NOT Dr.s, so the advice isn't coming form any Medical Professional.

Is your Propoxy the generic Darvocet 100?

If you could let me know I would appreciate it.

Thanks, Sherry
