Pulled Muscle & Breathing Trouble

The other night, I woke up with a pain under my left breast along my side from my middle to upper rib cage.  I'm thinking that I pulled a muscle? It hurts when I breath in deeply and it is hard to sleep at night.  The first day was not too bad but into night and morning number 2 it's getting worse.  I'm trying Flexall and some Ibuprofen for the pain, should this make it better?  Any tips on sleeping? When I sleep on the injured side it feels like I'm putting to much weight on it, but when I sleep on my right side it feels like I'm pulling the muscle even more.  Any self rememdies, I'm trying not to go to the doctor unless totally necessary?  Thanks. Dan

A hot pack will help more than icy hot if it is pleurasy. I hoe you find relief soon.

Thanks for the advice,

I put some icy hot and heat on it today, and there was little relief.  I did though take some Ibuprofen and the pain seemed to die down some.  I'm only 32 and don't remember anything certain incident that started the pain.  Hopefully tommorow morning it will be easy to sit up and get out of bed? If not then I will probably see the doctor. Dan

It could be inflammation in between the ribs and pleurisy. The latter would help if you put a hot water bottle on it and then go see a doctor to get antibiotics. They come on suddenly (at least for me) and feels like stabbing pain in the ribs when you breathe. Any reason you might have an injury such as a broken rib? In any case it sounds like you need to see a doctor and see what is going on. I worry that it could be heart related but don't know your age.
