Hello Joel,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am sorry to hear about your hip and leg pain.
We know how frustrating and disruptive pain can be to one's daily life. I am glad you found us and took the time to post.

As said about this could be any number of conditions. It may be sciatic nerve pain, which is not a condition but a symptom. Normally sciatic pain is felt in the buttocks and travels down the back of your leg. If you pain is primarily in your hip and radiates to the side or front of your thigh it is less likely to be your sciatic nerve. So if you could provide us with more specifics it would be helpful.

What ever the source of your pain it does sound nerve related. This could be an impingement, irritation or inflammation of a major nerve. Only a good clinical evaluation will determine which nerve is involved and how to proceed in treatment. I encourage you to see your PCP.

Greater Trochanter Bursitis, better known as hip bursitis can produce pain in the hip that radiates down your leg. The hip contains the largest bursea in the human body. The bursea is a fluid filled sac that allows smooth motion between the surface structures in your hip. When it becomes inflamed the pain can be excruciating.

There could also be nerve impingement, inflammation or irritation of a nerve in your spinal column. There are any number of structures that could be involved and that is why it is important that you consult your PCP.

I hope you will keep in touch and let us know how you are doing. You are more than welcome to ask additional questions or add additional information to your post. I'll look forward to hearing from you again. I wish you the best.

Take Care,
~Tuck

Please remember I am not a Dr. , and just because you gave me symtoms very similar to that of sciatica  you still could possibly have something else. I am just trying to  give you some guidance with the symtoms you presentened. The Scatice nerve is always the first problem they rule out when a patiant has pain from thr hip that goes down the leg.So with that said I would go get this checked by a physicain. Take care.

I'm not 100%, but this is the same symtoms  as when a person is having problems with their SCIATIC nerve. please go see your Dr. or go to the ER.,and get this checked out. The SCIATIC nerve runs from the lumbar of your lower spine through the buttocs down the leg,and it is the largest nerve in the body if this nerve gets pinched or streched in any way it will cause a wide range of different types of pain that go down your leg, even to your feet if you have sciatica you need to go to the Dr. Please don't proscrastinate go get this ched out. Best wishes of health. Sincerely, Paingotago
