Suboxone for pain?

I need to be taken off my oxy's/ morphine because I am starting to abuse them chasing that "zero" pain level. I had back surgery 2 years ago and still have pain. Has anyone tried suboxone for pain management...does it even help with pain?? or is it just for withdrawls?

ok  here's the deal with suboxone. I was told it works for pain and tried it for 5 months. I even went to the highest dose possible of 32mgs. It did NOTHING for my pain. All it did was not allow me to be able to take a narcotic which I desperately needed. After suffering for 5 months and I gave it that long, I went back to narcotics. Seems that sub works best for people that do not have nerve damage. So if you have any nerves involved, you would benefit more from neurontin or something of that nature. You said you abused your drugs because you were chasing the zero pain level. That is impossible to do as you know.    . I am not a doctor nor do I know the extent of your addiction. To sum it up... sub was like taking a sugar pill for me. For w/d it works great. Their are down sides to this drug. It is highly addictive and when you want to come off of it, it takes most people a real long time and the ppl that went on it wished they did not. Read the substance abuse community on here and read ppls experience about sub. Then you can come to a deceision. PM me b/c I know someone that is an ex addict and is getting great relief from sub. Everyone is different. I can put you in contact with him/her.

I have been tried almost every pain medication. I was even on methadone for a short time-DO NOT TAKE it -IT is the worse pain medication. I have had to have over ten thousand dollar of dental work since. I try to stay on ultram and neurontin. If I have a flare up, I will take low dose of new med-Opana ER an oxymorphine. I only take a low dose because I know if I keep taking it will not work. I work in the med field so I research everything with my own health now. I learned you have to; a doctor cannot in a ten minute visit. I found if I can exorcize, such as ride a bike for 20 min. I feel much better the next day. I had back surgery 4 years ago and neck surgery last year. I was up to riding a stationary NordicTrack bike for an hour at least three times a week-and my pain levels were at the lowest. I know some days it can hurt too much to even function.  I feel blessed because I have seen people in wheel chairs from up to 7 back surgeries. I know people who used suboxone and it did not help at all. I never want to try it; I heard people have had problems with their teeth from it. I hope it helps you. I would love to talk more, so just write back if you would like.

to me it helped my mental atttude toward pain..not really with the actual pain itself..but we are all different..most narcotics work by interrupting and changing our perception of pain more than actually stopping the pain itself..sub can also be abused and is habit forming as well...it can be a vicious cycle it seems..this chronic pain stuff and narcotics...for me i am pretty sure it is just not the answer anymore

Thanks, I found the posts.
No, I have not discussed this with my pain doc. I am my end of the road with the narcotic addiction but still having back pain, so it's a double-edge sword for me. I know something needs to give, I just am so confused on what to do. Thanks again for the reply!

Hi,
I typed in suboxone for pain in the community search box and there are alot of post there.
I wish I could be of more help. I have had so many ask this question and to be honest it is different for each person, how they react to the medication and if it does provide any pain relief. I would suggest asking your doctor what he/she thinks and if it is an option for you. Some doctors will not prescibe it for pain control at all. I know some members here have tried methodone too. Have you discussed any of this with your doctor , or or you just researching the idea at this point?

Hi,
Depending on who you ask , some say it has really helped them as far as pain control and that is if you can find a doctor who will prescibe them for pain control. There is a search box in the upper right hand corner for searching this community. Use it and you will see the results of some who have taken it for pain control and how it helped them individually. I can give you some site that have expanded information on it if you would like.
The search option will help you in seeing how others thought it worked for them. I do not have any experience with it but there are alot of members that have.
Let me know if you need help finding the past post.
