Taking hydrocodone 5/325 4 hours after taking my last Percocet 5/325

I have chronic back pain and leg pain from several back issues including  a herniated disc and bulging disc. I recently had surgery for endometriosis and was prescribed percocet 5. I regularly take hydrocodone for back pain and thismorning i took my last percocet. My back is hurting badly since its cold and rainy and i was thinking about taking a hydrocodone. The percocet feels like its completely worn off. What would the repercussions be?

The answer is somewhat complicated. You did not mention the doseage of hydrocodone. The medication comes in a variety of doses. The primary problem with all opiates is respiratory depression. A person who has regularly used opiates may withstand high doses without compromisimg respiratory status. On the other hand, a person who uses only low-dose may experience respiratory compromise at a much lower dose. I urge you to look on the internet for the excellent article on back pain resolution by Dr. Jerome Groopman, in the New Yorker Magazine.

    Hi,

Ms. or Mrs. Melanie, I have been taking prescribed pain narcotics for over 3 years with Hydro's and Perky's being some of them. I also take Morphine and Muscle Relaxers to boot. If you were taking the Hydro's before the Perky's you shouldn't feel too much difference from 1 to the other. Um...everyone's chemistry is different though. I've taken all of my meds at the same time without much difficulty. Of course I also self medicated for many years before I was approved for disability. I hope this helps you. Good day!

You really should ask your doctor about this.
