Right side mid to lower flank pain

I am 40 yrs old and have been diagnosed with a degenerative fibroid tumor.  My gyno seems to think that putting me on cataflam 50mg TID is helpful.  It only helps for about half an hour.  I can not function on a daily basis.  The pain is bad.  Sometimes to the point that I vomit.  I don't know what to do anymore.  I can't leave my house, I can't work, I can't even enjoy the company of my husband.  Please help.

Hello Memaw,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum. I am so glad that you found us and took the time to post but I am very sorry that you are experiencing chronic pain. We know the challenges that chronic pain causes in our daily lives. We can relate.

First I am wondering why that fibroid is so painful. It would be concerning to me. I have had a fibroid removed (myomectomy and endometrial ablation) but it didn't cause any pain, only bleeding. In fact I have one now and it is painless.

If nothing else they need to determine why you are having pain. I would obtain a second opinion. You could have endometriosis or any other number of conditions. If it is the fibroid than it must be positioned in such a way that it is causing pain or that it is so large that it is pressing on other organs.

If they won't remove it than at the least they should treat your pain. Unfortunately first you have to prove to them that you have pain when all literate says fibroids are painless. That is one of the reasons I suggest a second opinion. They may be missing something or not considering the size or location of the fibroid. I am just so sorry that you are in this position. It took years to discover the source of my pain and all those years I did not receive pain management.

Although we are the Pain Mangement Forum you have more involved here and may want to post on the Woman Health Forum or on our expert Forum for Gynecology. either of those forums may have additional information for you.

Please know that you are always welcome here. I will look forward to hearing how you are doing and about your search for pain reef. We wish you the very best.

Take Care,
~Tuck

I have a lot of abdominal pain as well. Endomitriosis, PCOS, IC, IBS, colitis, ulcers, and ostearthritis in my lumbar. I've been where you are. My gyno got to the point where she said she could no longer help me and sent me to pain management. I am younger than you are, (28) but pain is no picnic at an age. If she refuses to help you further, I think it's time to move on and search for someone who will. Is surgery an option for you? My mother in law had fibroids and they did a hystorechtomy to remove the source of her pain. Maybe that's an option. Go talk to your PCP and ask where you go from here? Explain to him that your life is interrupted right now and something needs to be done. Ask him what that something is. I hope that helps some. Good luck, please keep us updated as to how you are doing.
