I know that methadone impossible to get off of, 98% failure rate for long term, i failed after being off for 2 years! The only time it is good is for a street heroin addict, not for pain management. I regret the day i started the liquid hand cuff program and the stigma that comes with it! The toxic waste that is methadone, but most say, besides side effects, suboxone is better, then they say equally harder to come off of! Both the same i think. I still have pain, which methadone blocked better but as far as side effects, despite the pain, i like suboxone better so far! WOULD LOVE SUBUTEX THOUGH. Canada ***** for drugs, I wish they prescribed Xyrem here too, lol! You guys get all the goodies!

i take subutex ... and i tool methadone for over a year.. the 4 members who have voted methadone so far have yet to have their lives destroyed by it.

ill write something in depth a little more...gotta run.. but just wanted to say AVOID METHADONE!

and agree depends on pain... also agree about ceilings but you reach certain ceilings within each opiate. the celing with ubutex is about 20-24mgs. 2.5- 3 8mg pills.

i dont think 12 is ceiling, as i took 2 extra mgs. yesterday, just to see, and still alot better for every other nasty side effect of the nasty toxic waste that is methadone! It is getting better but pain is insane! I thing it is the naloxone, as if you read the leaflet of side effects, it is discussing, for suboxone, yet subtext, rarely any! He said they dont have subutex in canada, just suboxone, and i cant find the truth to is! I wish i would have just kept trucking, cause now husband.... are like when r u getting off....... THEY JUST DONT UNDERSTAND! I was never like this prior to beginning done in first place! It *****, plus i was in accident about month ago, and back was messed but went away, i think the codeine and done was masking it, now i switch to suboxone and neck is killing me and headache behind eyes, as i turned head sharply to avoid airbag, that they said would have broken my nose, also i have fibromyalgia, back pain (scoliosis)! nerve pain in general! The oxys blocked the pain, lol! yet again i was never this bad! IT *****!!!!! Thank you so much everyone, godbless and namaste. Just need someone to talk to the gets it!

As Weaver71, above, says, it really depends on the type of pain & the severity. It also depends on what level of opiate & what dose they were taking before.

Suboxone is what is known as a 'partial agonist'. Methadone is a 'full agonist'. They are both powerful synthetic opiates. Although Suboxone binds to endorphin receptor sites more powerfully than any other opiate, it's efficacy as a pain killer is limited as it has a 'ceiling dose'. It's kind of like an elevator that only goes to the third floor where full agonists go up to the tenth floor. This is what makes Suboxone abuse less likely than Methadone abuse. Hope this helps a bit.

It really depends on the type of pain, but the side effects and potential for abuse are far less with subs, in my opinion. Nerve pain is not really helped by opiates, they just make me high enough to endure it.  I know more people who died from methadone than any other drug.
