No way shinty! 110% at the very least. Madman. Thanks for the reminder. Education is key. We can learn as much or more about our own condition as the doctor. Most folks don't bother. If you are smart you will. I have to admit i don't do all the research i could........Stupid me. Bad...bad omhome.. bad boy....go lay down!

I agree with Madman 100%.
I have had these procedures done many times and most of the time this was done under a fluoroscope. I was given a light medication that would put me into a twilight sleep during the procedure. That has been my experience but not all doctors practice this procedure.
ASK your doctor what to expect. Will there be an anesthesia specialist there? You will need to sign paperwork for an anesthesia specialist.
Ask what the doctor expects to accomplish and what areas he/she is treating. Ask them to explain the procedure to you. Leaning about how this is done, can be fascinating.
I have had continued work done on the sciatic nerve area. Read up on something called the piriformis syndrome. Understand what is being treated, the piriformis or the sciatic nerve. Nerve blocks for me, were a hit and miss, sometimes they worked and sometimes there was no result. REMEMBER, the nerve grows back after time!
Pain medication only works on the brains perception of pain, not the nerve. You may need continued procedures to help keep this pain under control. Read up and educate yourself on your particular symptoms. The more you know, the more you can educate the doctor on your symptoms.
I have had MANY procedures on this sciatic nerve problem and still being treated. I have also been to many pain management doctors. I am now being treated by a sports medicine doctor with continued shots to this area. The shots do better than the drug medication but that is me.
Educate yourself in this area as it can be an ongoing pain with activity but activity is needed to get this muscle functioning properly. Don't take the doctors word for his education. Not all doctors treat this area properly. That has been my experience. There are new procedures out there that the medical community is now just learning. Find a doctor who knows the latest treatments and don't be afraid to try acupuncture or other methods. Every bit helps in treating this issue.
The more you know, the more you can help the doctor understand your pain issues, so good luck with that research and education.
