trying to get clearance for Medical Marijuana use is VERY difficult, even here in Canada.  Trying to find a doctor willing to fill out the paper work is extremely hard as most are not comfortable with it.  Then the cost of the meds aren't covered so it's all out of pocket.  I have heard of the pills & have heard that they do work wonders for some people & don't seem to carry the same side effects that smoking it does.  DO your research for your area.  I know that here in Ontario your condition dictates whether you need a doctor, specialist or psychologist to fill out the paperwork.  I've been trying for years to find a doctor that will fill out the papers for me, but have had no luck.

GOOD LUCK & keep us updated.

thankyou both for the replies.....my gf has tried many other forms of pain control and can't tolerate for various reasons. She did talk to her dr. about a script for the pill form and was told to go online for all the information and the forms. As she too implied the THC pills/ or tea have alot fewer side effects than opiates.....weight gain I'm assuming is d/t increased appetite? Is that the SAME case if taking it in other forms besides smoking it?

It IS LEGALIZED here in Canada for medicinal purposes.....but she is like me and has never been around anyone up until now who has actually used it. and we aren't spring chickens anymore....in fact she'll soon be 69.

looks like a long process to get approval. wonder why theres so much paper work involved for Pot and not narcotics?...........IMO the pot is less harmful than narcotics and alcohol.

thx again girls.

Most of us are in the US where THC pills are not used. I know they are not prescribed at all. The US is in the infant stages of testing THC for medical use (federal government). I know in Canada that THC pills are prescribed. I've never talked to anyone who has used them. I do know a lot of people that smoke pot for medical purposes as I live in California where it is legal for medical use. My sisters husband has his medical card and smokes for arthritis from years of professional skateboarding. He actually grows his own plants too. You can grow up to 6 with a medical card. Pot is something I've been contemplating for a long time as my current meds do nothing and are far worse for me than pot will ever be.

Since you're in Canada I would suggest looking into getting THC pills prescribed to you. I know that you need to meet certain criteria to be eligible and have the backing of a doctor. The only side effect of pot that I can think of is weight gain and dry mouth. But pot would  have less side effects than narcotics and be less physically addicting. But that's coming from smoking it, I'm not sure about it in pill form.

Hi Opus,

I think in most states...or countries where THC is legal these "pills" or other forms of the drug are becoming available. I have heard of them but never known anyone that has been prescribed the "pills" you are asking about.

In order to understand the effects of THC (the active ingredient in Marijuana/Cannabis) we need to understand the properties of the drug.

This from Wikipedia: "Cannabis has psychoactive and physiological effects when consumed. While many drugs clearly fall into the category of either stimulant, depressant, or hallucinogen, cannabis exhibits a mix of all properties, perhaps leaning the most towards hallucinogenic or psychedelic properties, though with other effects quite pronounced as well."

Some cancer patients claim it is extremely effective in controlling the nausea and vomiting that often accompanies chemotherapy. Because it has been illegal in so many states and still is ...there has not been the amount of medical research as there has been with other drugs that are legal.

It's also hailed as effective in treating glaucoma.

I will be interested to discover the true medical benefits, pros and cons of this drug as research increases.  Unfortunately I have heard nothing about the MJ pills.

Peace,
~Tuck
