Urine test

I've been going to a pain clinic for 2 years, for the last 5 times I have been given a urine tast .I've nothing to hide, but I had to pay 437.00 for the last test.As I am on disability and it is getting expensive.Last time I had to go in for a stimulator check they wanted me to take another urine test.I think that they are ripping me off.

Hi Ray,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. WOW!!! This cost seems high to me, especially if it's being done every visit!

Sadly I doubt the PMP will allow you to have drug screening outside of his clinic practice unless he orders it through an affiliated facility. The contract you signed should outline the specifics of the clinic's Drug Screening policy/requirement.  However given your financial situation the PMP may  agree to a compromise.

I have a feeling that your name has just came up repeatedly in their  "random selection"  of screening for some reason. I don't think they are singling you out.... not after being negative five times in a roll. They may not even be aware of this fact. There's probably someone else that is wondering why they never get screened... that's often the luck of the draw. At least that's how it was explained to me.

I hope you are able to work out a solution with your PMP's Clinic. Those of us on disability or SSDI know how tight money can be. Does your disability insurance not pay these costs?

Please keep in touch and let us know how this turns out. We all learn from one another. Best of luck!

Peace,
~Tuck

sure sounds like it, those clinics are a racket.  I found a testing lab called anylabtestnow.com where I had my tests done and they charged like $25 for a urine screen.  Maybe see if there is a location there near you or speak with your doctor and tell him you understand he needs a screening but you cannot afford it - call around with the cpt code the doctor will use for the test and see if you can find your own lab that will do it cheaper.  He should do it if you agree to go straight to the lab when they require a test.
