You have to more specific as to the type of pain. Chronic pain is often due to glial cell inflammation, which doesn't respond to opiates. New treatments being studied to eliminate such pain without opiates include third generation tetracyclines. Spinal pain secondary to disc compression can sometimes be eliminated with presdcription transdermal lidocaine patches worn for no longer than twelve hours a day or an electric TENS device.

It would be easier to try and help you if we knew a little more. What kind of pain, what you have tried and what your diagnosis is. I'm guessing it has to do with your back being as your getting shots there. Is it lumbar epidural a your having? Are they helping? Please share some more info.
