I just had spinal fusion surgery, but less extensive than yours was.  I am not having any leg weakness or difficulty walking at all.  I am 7 weeks post op.

I think you should call your surgeons office and run this by them, just to be on the safe side.  As Tuck says, these symptoms *can* happen, but as always, if it seems severe and is occuring 12 weeks post op, I personally would want my surgeon to be aware and to have it documented in my medical records.

I thought that is what you meant. I assume that this happens because of the numbness in the leg? By all means make sure your surgeon is aware of your symptoms, old and new.

Don't be afraid to use the walker. I do now and again and I think I am pretty young to be dependant on one...but we do what we have to do.  Shopping carts help me navigate in a store.

The "clumping" is without the walker. With the walker I walk smoothly.

Hello Momragdoll,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum. I am glad that you found us and took the time to post during your surgical recovery.

I have not had a spinal surgery. I would be concerned with the continued original symptoms and the newly developed ones. I am aware that it is not uncommon for post-surgical swelling to produce weakness, numbness, tingling and even pain. You may just be slower to recover than average. So though I would be concerned it is a good possibly that your symptoms may improve and eventually resolve. What are your surgeon's and physical therapist's opinions?

As you didn't mention pain I assume that is not a huge factor. At least I hope it is not. Other's on our forum have had spine surgery and they should be able to offer you their personal opinions.

Is the "clumping" you noted without a walker due to the numbness and lack of feeling and motion in your leg?

I'll look forward to hearing from you and hope that the healing process with be speedier. Please let us know how you are progressing and feel free to ask additional questions..

Peace,
~Tuck
