thank you all for listening I just finished writing you back when i accidentally deleted everything - basically saying; Im hesitant about changing my pain Rx because I just reached pain relief.  Im wondering if the feeling ive been getting is from the frustration over memory loss, not being as quick with my thoughts (also had a few head injuries) and anxiety I have.   Not to mention i have serious depression now.  Im on the  search for a psych. who specializes in chronic pain
I may have forgot to mention I also am getting injections.  The last one was about four weeks ago with six different spots they injected me .  It took me a few days to get over that one.  Thanx again!!

Hello Again MBell,

I just read your other post. You do need to see your physician. I understand you missed your appt due to confusion or being mixed up on the days. After these many months this should not be happening. Your dose isn't really that high but maybe it is too high for you.  If you can't get in to see your physician right away than please call his nurse and explain how you are feeling. They may be able to work you in or have suggestions for you. Again please take care and keep in touch. Tuck

Hello Mbell,

Welcome to the Pain Management Forum of MedHelp. I am glad you found us. I am sorry you are having difficulties adjusting to your meds. You didn't reveal what you are taking so I can't be specific.

However it as the above posters indicated it does take some time to adjust to your medications. Some ppl seem to adjust in a week to 10 days, others it takes weeks. I have been on pain medications for almost 5 years. The memory is still effected. I have found ways to compensate. The first few weeks I had problems concentrating but that is long gone. As I said I have learned ways to compensate and I have learned to live with the memory issues. It's a small price to pay for pain relief, at least for me. Everyone is different. I did not have a real issue "thinking straight".

If you are concerned with these side effects than you should discuss them with your physician. Possibly your dose may be adjusted or you may require a change in medication. And sometimes it takes a while to discover the right combination of medications for an individual.

I wish you well. Please let us know how you are doing. And take care, Tuck

Don't forget that your pharmacist is sometimes a better resource regarding side effects than your own doctor.  If you have multiple medications for different medical issues, you may be able to cut back some of the side effects by simply changing the timing of the dosage.  In my case, I started out trying to time things so I only had to think about it twice a day.  Didn't work.  I couldn't take the pain and nausea meds at the same time because that combination would practically knock me out.  Over time your body will adjust, but if not, then you have to look at a different medication.  Pain management seems to be nothing more than one big experiment at times, and we're the white rats.  :-)

Hi,
How long have you been on your current medication regime.
It takes time to get accustomed to the side effects. If your still having problems like your describing after a couple weeks perhaps you should talk to your Dr about trying different medications.
