I have fibromyalgia (in addition to other issues.) I also can't take Lyrica (or Neurontin) due to the side effects. They did give me a little relief (though not enough relief to be able to justify the side effects.) For the first few years after diagnosis, I chased a "cure," only to not really be able to find anything that helped. Back then what worked best for me was large doses of ibuprofen, 800 mg. every 4 hours (prescribed by my doctor.) At that time, I also would swim. I had to start out REALLY slow (like a length of the pool) and I built up until I would swim for about 45 minutes. Eventually I added in the elliptical and that also helped. (For some reason, the treadmill always made me worse.)
I've been having a pretty bad flare-up since a car accident in May. It waxes and wanes a bit but this time around I just can't seem to get myself to the gym. It could be the other things I have cropping up.
If you can feel well enough to get to a pool, you may find some relief there. Even if you just walk through the water initially, it may bring you some relief. Best of luck!
Thank you so much for the web page you sent me!!! and for all the consolation. It's a hard one to get doctors and others to believe what we are going thru. Sometims it gets worse than other days. it seems to depend on the weather and the amount of sleep i get. The more the better! I will check out that site now.
Hello Conjoy,
I am so very sorry to hear about your uncontrolled pain. We can relate. The Journey through Chronic Pain is often a tough one....filled with obstacles and difficult decisions. My heart goes out to you.
I don't know if you have posted on our Fibromyalgia Forum or not. You are always welcome here however this forum may have more members with your diagnosis....and therefore additional suggestions. Here's the link:

I am hopeful you'll be approved for SSDI. Unfortunately you'll have a wait even once you are approved before you are eligible for Medicare Benefits. I wish you a speedy and positive decision. Please feel free to continue to post questions and concerns. We offer you our support....and wish you the best.
Take Care,
~Tuck
Thanks for your comment! I don't have insurance right now......wauting on SSD to approve me. I am at the appealing stage. I am praying it goes thru so I can once again have insurance. My doctor wants me to go to Pain Management. I must wait til I can afford it and I will go. They want 100 bucks to see me since I have no insurance. It's a catch 22. sigh I take tegretal right now. it helps somewhat back off the pain......but I have been having debilitating pain lately and its getting harder to move around. Thanks for your suggestion..
God Bless!
Lyrica is a great med for your type of issue too bad. Pain pills will not help you in the short run. Go to a good reputable Pain Management doctor who works with your specific problem,
and ask this question as it is your life on the line. Blessings.
