where can I find generic oxycontin

I have lost my drug coverage temporary because my doctor did not get a form in to have my disability stuff renewed.  So, for. hopefully, only a month, I have to pay for my meds out of pocket.  I cannot seem to find a pharmacy that dispenses generic oxycontin sr 20mg.  Any suggestions?

I think you may want to start your own post about your medications rather than just post it in the middle of another topic.

Everyone here is a chronic pain patient; no physicians.  We share experiences, vent, rant sometimes, and generally support each other in dealing with all the aspects of having chronic pain.

You need a prescription for oxycontin, as you know.  If your present physician isn't treating your pain, you need to either change to a physician that will, or ask for a referral to a pain clinic.  Different doctors have different practices.  I have a friend who is a NP and she doesn't think narcotics are the best treatment for arthritis or fibromyalgia.  There are others who disagree.

And there are other things that can be done to manage arthritis, none of which are a cure, but put all together can help significantly.  I'm not sure how old you are, how long you've had the arthritis and tendonitis, and who diagnosed it?  Also, what things have you already tried to treat it?  Most doctors don't go straight to prescribing oxycontin.

A lot of people can treat their arthritis with ibuprofen and/or Tylenol, exercise, ice or heat, injections, PT and/or OT.   A lot of people find glucosamine chondroiton is extremely helpful.  I have severe arthritis in my hands, right hip and back as well as RSD and fibromyalgia.  For a lot of years I was able t manage it through means other than narcotics.

I hope you find some relief.  Arthritis can be extremely painful and debilitating.

hello everyone! I am having a similar problem.. I have arthritis and trndinitis and the pain is absolutly unbearable. I cannot sleep, clean, cook, do laundry, and I am on thin ice at my dream job due to my pain getting in the way of my daily routines. My major problem is that my doctor does not prescribe narcotics. Oxycontin, being a narcotic is not an option for me. Although, it is the only thing that works for my pain. And trust me, I have tried nearly everything out there. My friend gave me an oxycontin one day when I stayed at her house and I could barely get out of bed. With in an hour, I was in her kitchen making bacon and eggs. I felt like myself again and could not belive that my pain had temporarily been gone. I dont know what to do to get a prescription for them though, and I do not want to ask my friend for more. A lot of people are using them recreationally which is causing problems for those who actually need them. I dont know how to get a prescription. Does anyone know where in Barrie, Ontario I can go to get a prescription for oxycotin? Maybe I can get my life back and start focussing on my dream job again. Thank you!

Hello Soulshyn,

Welcome to the Pain Mangement Forum at MedHelp. I am so glad you found us but sorry to hear that you have lost your medication insurance for a short time.

The link that Sara provided for you from Sandee journal is a very helpful indeed. However I doubt this will help you as quickly as you require the refill. Unless I am mistaken you have to prove that you meet certain income levels and the process can be timely.

Oxycodone Hydrochloride ER is the generic name that you are looking for in OxyContin. Most pharmacies will carry this generic medication if not many will make calls for you until they can locate it for you. Try one of the large chains as they are most apt to have access to it. I have found if my local chain does not have it they will search until they locate it.

I was just prescribed that exact medication 10 days ago and I did not have an issue finding a generic version. I know that things can change on a weekly or daily basis but I have heard nothing about a shortage.

If that fails try calling the manufacturer. Your pharmacist should be able to provide you with that information and number.

I hope you are successful in your search. It's s shame that your physician did not complete the required paperwork on time. I am so sorry that you are now in a bind.

Please let us know how your search is going. I am hopeful it will end successfully. We will look forward to hearing from you again soon. Good luck!!

Take Care,
~Tuck

Hi Soulshyn:  I'd to like to welcome you to our community.  As for finding low cost prescriptions, I'd like to refer you one of forum leaders Sandee1818 journal post on this subject.  As it is rather long and detailed, I'll just provide you the link:

http://www.medhelp.org/user_journals/show/162076/Prescription-assistance-programs-and-phone-numbers?personal_page_id=1060

Hopefully there will be something in there that will help you.  I wish you the best of luck in finding the pain relief you need at a price you can afford.

Good Luck,
Sara

I'm sorry part of my post didn't show up :

I wanted to welcome you to the Pain mnangement Forum and let you know how happy we are that you found our Forum!!

Ialso wanted to let you know how sorry we are about the mix up in your drug coverage. That is devastating when it happens. I would be out of pocket over $1,600.00 a month if it ever happened to me and I WOULDN'T be able to get many of my meds at all. Ihope and pray that your Dr. gets his paperwork in for you!!!

I hope that there aren't any meds such as BP,  or other life saving meds that you aren't forced to NOT be able to purchase.

Sorry this first part of my first post was cut out some way..:)

Best of luck....Sherry

Can you get your Dr. to change the script to 2 10 mg each time instead of the 20mg. I don't know if that is [ossible or not but I thought it would be worth a try.

Maybe you could ask your Dr. for help in locating a pharmacy that carries it. What about a pharmacy at a hospital where your Dr. is affiliated with? They will usually carry much more choice as the hospital needs them.

I hope that this has helped you some. If not someone will be a long hopefully with more ideas.

Please keep us updated as to what you were able to get.....Sherry
