child quiet at school

My 6 years old is very quiet at school. He is good in studies, very chatty at home and in family/friends gathering, but won't talk at school.
Even when he knows the answer, he won't raise his hand.
Won't even ask to go for Toilet.

If asked, he just says that he is shy.
Please advise. thanks.

He is simply shy ,a lot of children dont like to put their hand up to go to the Bathroom,  and are quiet at school, the Teacher could make sure that the children are given enough time to go to the Bathroom .

I suspect your child is suffering from an anxiety disorder called "selective mutism".  Please peruse the site "selectivemutism.org" which (in my opinion) is the best site on the internet.  I would suggest you start with the FAQ's.  There a ton of resources on this site as well as downloads for your son's teacher.  I might suggest you give this site address to your son's teacher.  One book which I would strongly urge you to purchase would be "The Ideal Classroom Setting for the Selectively Mute Child" by Dr. Elisa Shipon-Blum - both for you to read and your son's teacher.  I believe it is worth its weight in gold and explains so much in easy-to-understand language.

Please let us know if you think there is anything else with which we might be able to help. Hope this helps ...
