3 yr old, low grade fever, crying

My 3 yr old granddaughter has had a low grade fever for a month.  2 weeks in to the month she could not walk and after an afternoon in the emergency room they determined that it was either Legg-Calve-Perthes disease or a virus that settled in her hip causing the pain.  We are in week 4 now and she will walk, but cries all the time; wants to be carried; is over sensitive to everything; doesn't want to eat; etc.  She is on over-the-counter pain meds and occasionally coughs until she throws up.  Is there an underlying issue here or is this a behavioral issue???  We are stumped.  Dr says the next step is a bone scan, but I am having doubts about that.  We can see in her eyes that she doesn't feel well.  what now???

They were going to wait 3 months before a definitive diagnosis of the Legg-Calve-Perthes disease.  But if this is a virus, can it last this long, really?  With the fever and everything?  I just don't remember these kinds of illness issues when my kids were little.

Has a diagnosis been determined Yet ? It could be that having had a lot of attention that indeed she is seeking it, not exactly a behavioral issue than liking the attention she was getting .There have been many virus's going around this year with similar symptoms I think you will have to wait till the scan is done and you have more information.Try playing it down a bit lessen the carrying, see if there is any difference
