my 10 month old baby was diagnosed with sever myopia -12 in his right eye

my baby is a full term baby (40 weeks).i just found that he got a severe myopia in his right eye -12 and a -0.5 in his left eye.the doctor describes a glasses for him and to patch his left eye so he can train his right eye.I just notice that every time iam patching his left eye he is trying to take the glasses of his face.i dont know if this is normal.my question how bad his eye will be as he grow up ?and is there any thing i can help him regain his vision back maybe through food or any thing else .is it better to put contact lenses or use the glasses .please answer my questions .thanks .
i ve been patching only for 3 days for 3 hours aday
