I have just finished reading an article about 'growing pains' it does occur mostly in children between 3-9 years of age then again in the pre adolescent population. It is known to occur in 20% of all children .although the incidence is high, the medical approach to treatment has not changed in decades the standard answer being' They'll outgrow it"... The commonly accepted cause ofn growing pains' is now described as muscle injury, .Many Physicians are of the opinion that when the rate of the bone growth outpaces the the ability of the soft tissue muscles and tendons to keep up ..muscle injury, spasm, and tearing can occur.Seek another opinion if you believe that it is more than this and Good luck

This forum as you will see if you look is a patient support forum and we do pretty well doing just that, we do not pretend to be Doctors or experts and the above post is offensive in its content ...I will address as a layman what you are asking here ....It does sound like growing pains, but as it hurts so much I suggest you go and seek a second opinion .. and have some Xrays done .Good Luck please let us know how he is doing ...

Hi Liz347,

First, I want to welcome you to the Pain Management Forum and let you know that we are glad you found this Forum. I want to let you know that there are NO Doctors on this Forum, only CP  {Chronic Pain}  Patients that help each other with our OWN expertise and experiences that we have developed through our OWN CP Issues.

I'm sorry that your Sweet Little Boy is having such pain and at such an early age!!  I KNOW as a Mother AND Grandmother how FRIGHTENING it is to have this happen to your child.

I think that the proper place for your question is the Pediatric Forum.  They are MUCH more suited to answer your question about your Precious Baby than we are on this Forum.

Here is the link:

PLEASE know that you are ALWAYS welcome here, BUT I think in this PARTICULAR instance that the Pediatric Forum would be a better match for you.  :)

Best Wishes to BOTH you and your Sweet Son..........Sherry  :)
