I AM REALLY SCARED! My daughter age ten had what is beleived to be a seizure on thursday. No doctors were open i spoke to on call am making an appt for her come mon. But heres the ?. She had been playing her nintendo ds for an hour or so then watched some tv for 15-45 minutes. She then went up stairs and talked and joked with her grandfather. He had jammed his finger and it was bleeding. SHE HAS NO PROBLEMS WITH BLOOD! She was sitting. She stood, and flopped back in the chair, and shook for 10 or so seconds. No history of seizures. Felt tired afterward and did remember what happened. Felt fine later that night. Claims had a headache and tummyache right before the incident. PLease tell me did she have a seizure?

Hi, Ok I took her to the doctor he beleives she had a Vasovagal event. I can see this as well. The reason I didnt rush her to the Hospital was like i said i was not there when it happened. She has a EEG schefuled for Wed 7-16. Of course to rule out anything more. But thank you for posting. Chrystal

Hello,

alot of factors come into play when we talk about seizures.  First I can advise that as soon as this happend you should of called the Ambulance or rushed her to the ER.  There are numerous test that should be run in order to get a correct assumption of the problem at hand what I can tell you is based only off what you have told me.

1. Talk to you DOC about PSE (Photosensitive epilepsy)  This is reply would have to be 3 pages long in order for me to correctly explain about it.  But do some research of your own
2.  CT scan and Blood work also an MRI of the head.

3. If she has sometime in the past suffred a blow to the head (and it didnt even have to be a big one ) that can do it as well.  Think back 4, maybe 5 years sometimes it takes sometime for this stuff to come out certain things trigger it (TV being one).

4. The stomach ache and other jazz, Thats sometimes Par for the course
5. Hope this wont happen again (Parent of 4 myself) but if it happens you need to be calm and collective and get her to an ER or MD ASAP dont be affraid to call the ambulance if you have to.  This is why alot of the time by the time you get to the hospital or the DOC most symtoms are gone.  Having an EMT or Paramedic see this stuff will help the DOC alittle more than a scared parent.  Now having said that IN NO WAY AM I TELLING YOU TO SIT AROUND AND WAIT IF ITS QUICKEST TO GET ER TO THE ER  OR THE DOC.  You have to make that one for yourself.

Most children that have epilepsy live full awesome lives and there are tons of meds out there today that treat it well.  (tegretol is an old fan favorite of mine) also Depakote  which is said to be a "MONOTHERAPY DRUG" which mean it might be the only med that the child has to take for there situation.

Stay Cool        There is alot out there on this stuff and what your MD tells you will be fine theres alot of ways to skin the cat here with what you have wrote  hope it helps out some.  P
